Vehicle Description
Classic Car Addict is proud to present this beautiful, original
1964 Ford Thunderbird for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. By
the time the fourth-generation Ford Thunderbird appeared for 1964,
the Thunderbird design studio had a firm grasp of what their
customers liked and didn't like. Since the "banana-nose" design of
the Bullet Birds hadn't gone over well, Bill Boyer and his team
revisited some earlier styling themes for its 1964 successor. The
Bullet Bird's unloved recessed headlights, tail fins, and dog-dish
taillights were all removed.
The fourth generation Thunderbird is known as the "flair bird".
This T-bird has just a little over 26K miles (since engine and
transmission rebuild) with its factory coat of paint. Consignor has
plenty of receipts/documents for repairs, so this is a great driver
and even better survivor vehicle. There are some scratches and a
few dings, but you can get in and drive this car.
Inside, the cabin takes you back to past, with sleek lines, smooth
panels, and a mix of shiny polished aluminum panels for the doors.
Finished in red crinkle vinyl, the front seats are a low back
bomber buckets; drivers' side does show wear. Turning to the dash,
all the modern stops were pulled out for this instrument cluster
which includes a rolling line speedometer indicator, and 4 round
ball like gauges in deep round bezels stretching across the bottom
of the speedo. The original red steering wheel, smudged and
discolored with time, fronts the dash, and has the shifter in tree
for the automatic transmission. A curved line stretches from door
to door, and melts into a center console with plenty more of
polished and brushed aluminum. This part houses a radio, heater
controls and the power window and door lock toggles. Also, a large
glovebox is between the buckets. In back a wonderful wrap around
rear seat with folding armrest, and side molded into the curve
armrests are seen.
The body is finished in what is the original Wimbledon White
basecoat/clearcoat Urethane. After a recent buff and wax, the
T-Bird looks AMAZING! And we aren't just saying that because we
brought it back to life. We love the dual different size
headlights, it takes on a "mad" look with the lines of the hood,
almost like someone is scowling at you. The panels are straight and
have nicely managed gaps throughout. The rear bumper has dual
horizontal housing taillights with bird badges in the center.
Please look thoroughly through the photos, there are some
imperfections in the paint that they did try and touch up.
Underneath the hood is the numbers matching engine in 390ci form,
and it's backed up by the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. A
Holley 4-barrel carburetor is atop, and this engine specs out
showing it will produce 300hp. The Thunderbird rolls on BF Goodrich
Revelation Touring tires, all four are 215/75R15's. The consignor
has provided us with recent and old receipts for services that were
done.
