Introduced in 1955 the Thunderbird evolved very quickly from a two seat sporty car in 1955 through 1957 into a large square shaped four passenger luxury car in 1958. But, in 1962 the Thunderbird was redesigned again into what is arguably its sportiest and sleekest version it ever became. Dubbed the “Bullet Bird” because of its sleek round nose and “afterburner” taillights, the 1962 redesign was a space age masterpiece that is hard not to like. Also for 1962, to recall back to the original Thunderbird design, Ford introduced the “Sports Roadster”, a sports model with a fiberglass rear tonneau with head fairings giving a very convincing two seater look while being able to remove if the rear seat is needed. They also had a grab handle for the passenger and chrome Kelsey Hayes wire wheels. A very rare version of the third generation Thunderbird with only 120 Sport Roadsters produced in 1962. Finding an original Sports Roadster today is very rare indeed.
Offered here is a wonderfully restored real 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster. Presented in white with red interior and a black canvas top this car is really sharp. Complete with its original data tags and build card showing that this is unquestionably one of the real 120 Sports Roadsters built in 1962. The restoration was well executed with a very clean undercarriage, very nice brightwork and a very nice interior. Everything works including the power top and windows. If you are looking for an original Sports Roadster with a nice restoration, than this car should certainly be considered.
