For Sale: 1964 Ford Galaxie in Concord, North Carolina

Ford was riding high in 1964. Motor Trend awarded the entire Ford line of cars their "Car of the Year" honor. Ford's big cars, like this 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 coupe, were racking up an impressive amount of NASCAR victories, partly due to the attractive fastback roof design introduced mid-way through the 1963 model year. This Galaxie 500 is restored and finished in the same color scheme it left the factory in, Rangoon Red (code J), with a black interior. According to the original sales contract with the car, it was sold on February 27, 1964, by Ford dealer Mattews Motors in Asheville, North Carolina, to a gentleman from nearby Candler. Other documents include the factory window sticker, first registration card, and owner's and service specifications manuals.

The glossy Rangoon Red paint, shiny chrome, and bright trim look great on this classic. The interior is restored to its original, with a nice removable front seat armrest, cup holder, and retro AM/FM radio designed to fit perfectly in the stock dash.

Under the hood is a smooth-running 289 2-barrel V8 engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission that sounds great through the old-school dual glass-pack mufflers. The column-mounted "Three on the Tree" shifter shifts quickly and is fun to drive. A period-correct horizon-style tachometer keeps track of the engine's RPM and looks excellent. It is simple to drive and a pleasure to operate-a set of white-lettered B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A mounted on steel wheels with spider caps help capture a nostalgic NASCAR look, however the original Deluxe wheel covers are included in the trunk.
