Vehicle Description
The all-new 1958-60 Continental was the creation of Ford stylist
John Najjar, with considerable contributions from a young Larry
Shinoda (later of Corvette Sting Ray fame). Designed in the
mid-1950s as a response to the "bigger is better and too much is
just right" school of thought, it wound up being the most deluxe
automobile built by Lincoln in this era, with a 131-inch-wheelbase
chassis and an overall length of 227.2 inches. In fact, the 1960
Mark V Convertible remains the largest open-top American car built
after World War II. Even when new, these exclusive automobiles were
just that - exclusive. Only 2,044 Mark V Convertibles were made,
and when new, they represented the zenith of American motoring. The
glamorous beauty offered here was formerly owned by Jerry Capizzi.
Mr. Capizzi was one of the most well-known collectors of Lincoln
automobiles in the country and was well respected in the collector
community. His cars were admired for their authenticity and high
level of quality, and this magnificent Mark V is no exception. The
exceptionality of this car was recognized by the Lincoln
Continental Club of America (LCOC) twice, capturing the Lincoln
Trophy #6 (Best 1958-1960 Lincoln Continental) at the Eastern
National Meet in 1993, and was a Major Award Winner (Best of Show)
at the club's Mid-America National Meet the following year. The
Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) also was impressed,
bestowing upon it the club's coveted Senior National First Place
prize for two consecutive years in 1996 and 1997. Three grill
badges commemorating these significant achievements are still
proudly displayed on the front of this very special Lincoln.
Properly stored and driven sparingly since it was restored, the car
remains in remarkable condition today, a testament not only to the
great care it has been treated to, but also to the quality of the
restoration. Recently refinished in the beautiful factory-correct
color of Twilight Pink, it has all of the luxuries expected of this
model, including power windows, power vent windows, power top, and
6-way power seats, with the seats themselves being thickly and
comfortably upholstered in rich two tone Black and White leather.
The interior is particularly glamorous, with its engine-turned
dashboard finish carrying Space Age-inspired gauges and a
signal-seeking Town & Country radio. Additionally, this car is
equipped with a very rare and highly-desirable factory FM radio
unit which is mounted below the dash in a specially styled housing.
Other optional factory equipment includes air conditioning and
Speed Control. While the restoration is slightly older, it still
presents beautifully, with good factory-standard shut lines and
panel gaps and an engine bay properly finished with correct
reproduced assembly line markings and detailing. No collection of
Lincolns is complete without a Mark V, representing the ultimate
production from the company's glitziest and most fascinating era.
This fine example, offering all the comforts of home, is a superb
choice for the collector who appreciates the many charms of this
multiple award winning 1960 Lincoln Mark V and its place in car
collecting history. Offers welcome and trades considered For
