For Sale: 1961 Chevrolet Impala in Wake Forest, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

1961 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop Sports Sedan 102,744 miles as of this writing, 283 V8 2 bbl carburetor, 2 speed cast iron Auto Powerglide.

  • Tuxedo Black exterior with White cove, Red and White Interior.

  • This is the Hardtop Sports Sedan which was different than the regular 4 door Hardtop.

  • This car has no pillar between the front and back windows.

I have owned this car since October 1978 (45+ years and counting)! This is a true survivor vehicle. Much of the vehicle is original from when it was purchased.

The car had a body on restoration in 1995 including new paint. Some of the chrome was re-plated in 1995 and a few pieces are NOS replacements.

I have tried very hard over the years to keep this car as original as possible. I finally upgraded the bias ply whitewall to steel belted reproduction white walls. And yes, it does handle much better. There is a stainless steel exhaust in place. I have tried hard to use proper hardware hose clamps etc., a few minor items may not be as factory.

I have all the original chrome pieces that were replaced. The aluminum side trim is original and in great shape. The bumpers are original and were not re-plated.

The engine starts up and runs smooth. It was rebuild around 1995 also. New wire and plugs just installed. This car has only let me down 1 time in 45 years when a fuel pump went. Otherwise I just get in and drive it.

Interior is mostly original, some upholstery was redone in 1995 with original NOS material. The carpet is a replacement. The headliner and sun visors are original.

The passenger side kick panel is a bit bad at the bottom and there are some cracks in the vinyl near the window in particular on the passenger side. There is a small amount of surface rust on the chrome window trim on the top pieces. Glass is all good.

The AM bush button radio is original and works, but seldom is used.

I have the owner's manual, 1961 impala reproduction repair manual and 1961 reproduction build manual.

To give you an idea of how original this vehicle is, the high beam headlights are T3 headlights that were on the car when purchased in 1978. If you know what T3 headlights are you know what I am getting at. These are not reproduction headlights and they still work.

The vehicle was originally sold in Providence, RI. I purchased it in Massachusetts in 1978. It has been stored in a garage for the 45+ years I have owned it and never driven in snow. The car was DRIVEN to North Carolina without any issues in 2010 where is has been since.

Tires are in good shape. I have the original jack. I can include all the spare parts and original pieces. I saved everything.

The wipers just stopped working. I will be working on this to see if I can repair it and it may be fixed soon. If can’t fix it you have your first project built in.

Selling AS IS.
