For Sale: 1937 Chevrolet Master in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1937 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Coupe

A favorite platform for modification, the Master Deluxe from Chevrolet have been turned into lowriders, gassers, racers, restomods, and good old American hotrods. Their iconic shape, forward grille, and smooth body panels create a blank page for the creative mind. They came in a variety of body styles in 1937 including four door sedans, two door coach, two door sedan, business coupe, and sports coupe. That's a lot of choices in the 30's and is indicative of the innovative nature of the automotive industry at that time and the changing tastes of the American public for cars of different configurations.

For consignment, a 1937 Master Deluxe coupe sporting an all steel body and having been tastefully modified without losing its original charm keeping it smack dab in the middle of American street rodding at its finest. You may eventually get to that rusty shell that's been in your garage for 15 years, meanwhile here's an opportunity to have a drivable, finished product just in time for car show season! You can still tinker with your project and run to the auto parts store in this sweet ride! If you share the builder's vision and the cool customizations of this car, read on! Let's find out what it has!

Exterior
Drink in the Red Wine Metallic that covers this car. They could only dream of paint this nice in 1937! It shows off the lines of this car very well, and what lines! Those lovely rear leaning fenders put the car in motion even when it's standing still. And those fenders, along with the running boards and body, are steel. The bullet shaped LED headlights are painted to match with a modern lens that is crystal clear. The tall, vertical grille is indeed reminiscent of a waterfall. The windows, including the upper part of the split windshield, are tinted. The way the rounded roofline cascades into the descending trunk is truly classic and the whole car seems to be pulled forward by the leaning bird-of-prey hood ornament in gleaming chrome. Shaved door handles give way to a remote entry system using the key fob while the Cadillac taillights, license plate, and antenna are inset into the body. The antenna has an embossed flame design encircling the depression for a little nod to old school hot rodding. Two chrome oval exhaust tips protrude past the valance and offset Cragar SS wheels give the car a less than pedestrian stance. These two features hint that this is not your grandfather's Master Deluxe. Engage the underglow lights and all bets are off that this is anything close to stock. As far as flaws, look closely and some imperfections in the paint are noted including a few bubbles, scratches, and outright cracks in the paint.

Interior
Full custom and leather in here, we're greeted with khaki colored door panels and billet controllers. Three distinct sections make for a simple and clean presentation on the door panel which reflects the rest of the interior. The modern leather bucket seats are power controlled and well bolstered and include headrests, all in excellent condition. There is no second row of seats but that didn't stop this beautiful khaki leather from flowing to the back storage area which is neat, clean, and coordinated. A Grant wood steering wheel with metal spokes provides a place for confident directional manipulation, uh...steering. The dash features new AutoMeter gauges with a vintage style font on a cream background that is a stunning match for the interior. They sit just about flush with the body colored metal dash and a modern AM/FM/CD radio with Bluetooth is mounted on the passenger side. A floor-mounted Hurst shifter is jacketed by a smooth leather shift boot and a center console has a pair of cupholders and a storage bin. The lower steering column is wrapped in the same low pile tan carpet that covers the floor, all in very good condition. The soft stitched headliner is color matched to the interior and is in great shape. Let's not forget the massive trunk which is completely finished in leather, mirroring the tuck and roll of the interior, and smooth carpet. We just changed our mind about using this car as a parts hauler for your project car, it's too nice!!

Drivetrain
An 80's era 350ci V8 is topped with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor. Lots of chrome under here including the rocker covers which retain roller rockers and pushrods tied to a consignor stated high lift camshaft. All the power is harnessed by a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission heading back to a 12 bolt rear and 2.73 gears with positraction. Power disc brakes up front, power drums in the rear.

Undercarriage
Not quite as showy down here as it is above, but decent driver quality underbelly. The rear differential cover is chromed and could use a good buff, while the dual exhaust has some typical surface rust but is intact. The exhaust leads from headers back to chambered mufflers and out the back with two chrome tips. Coil spring suspension is found up front while leaf springs with some surface rust are out back.

Drive-Ability
The car started right up thanks to the HEI ignition and Painless wiring harness with an exhaust note that could be heard in the Napa Valley. Into gear she went and we noticed a bit of clutch chatter as we rolled out of the garage. We coaxed the car around the test loop with no issues, it shifted fine and had adequate acceleration. We noted the seats were comfortable and the interior was a nice place from which to control this '37. Power brakes are up for the challenge of slowing and stopping the car. We note the horn is inoperable.

This is a nice build with all the right ingredients, starting with red wine! The paint, tinted window, and stunning interior render this "ready for show" car you can confidently take to cruise nights, car shows, and cars and coffee events. It's a very nice recipe for a classic platform, now belly up to the bar and take a closer look!
