For Sale: 1954 BSA Motorcycle in Orange, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

In June of 1937 a race prepared BSA Empire Star 500 ridden by Wal Handley achieved a 100MPH lap at Brooklands where it would achieve victory and give the new BSA super sports model its incredible reputation and famous name. Post World War II BSA would reintroduce the Gold Star for their 1949 lineup and it first appeared at the 1948 Earls Court motor show. For 1950 a larger 500cc B34 Goldie was introduced with a newly designed top end with a separate rocker box becoming known as the BB designation and 1953 the swinging arm suspension was introduced as well. More importantly, in 1954 the "big fin" top end was introduced on the very late BB series bikes and carried over to the CB designated bikes. On the race track these bikes were very successful, but very few BB "big fin" bikes were produced with a fully alloy engine with high compression and a swing arm frame. On the race track these bikes were very successful, seen at some of the most prestigious European races of the period.

Offered here is one of these very rare 1954 BB34A high compression 'big fin' alloy competitions. Featuring an engine that is completely aluminum with an aluminum 'big fin' top end and swing arm frame. Amazingly this bike is also a factory high compression model with "HC" stamped into the crankcase denoting this. The engine looks to have also been stroked for more torque.  While its first owner is unknown, we have history back to 1960. Purchased by a Mr. Timer Simmons in 1960 and then sold to a Mr. Pete Sullivan who raced the bike from 1963 to 1967. It was then purchased from the Sullivan estate by well known motorcycle collector Dana Erickson of Connecticut in 2002. Mr. Erickson restored the bike around 2012. It was restored to a very high level, I would say concours condition. Most importantly all of the numbers and parts are correct on this bike so it is very good and pure. It runs and rides amazingly well and is incredibly fast. It's a beautiful bike and a very rare and significant BSA alloy competition. Please message or call Alex with any questions (203) 218-1903. We can also assist with shipping. Sold As is Where is. You can view a video of the bike running and driving as well.
