Porsche Cayman. This little mid-engine 3-door 2-seater fastback
coupe comes to us today wearing an eye-catching coat of bright
Guards Red paint in good driver condition. The bright red covers
almost every inch of the car with body-color bumpers, door handles,
and dual side mirrors. The swooping, sculpted body is accented with
a retractable rear spoiler beneath the hatchback, and a larger
spoiler added to the hatchback itself. Angled side air intakes
really add to the sporty appearance while also providing needed
fresh air for the mid-engine. Both the headlamp and taillight
lenses are crystal clear and like new. The only badges on the
exterior are a gold Porsche crest at the center front of the hood
and a "Cayman" script between the rear spoilers - both in excellent
condition. This stylish coupe is further enhanced by gleaming
5-spoke chrome wheels wrapped in a nice set of Continental Extreme
Contact tires. Hiding behind all four of these wheels are large
drilled rotors with bright red calipers (all backed up with an ABS
system).
Normally at this point in a description, I would talk about lifting
the hood to see the engine, but that's just not possible with the
Cayman. There is no door, lid, or other way to access the
mid-engine without using tools. The engine can be reached by
removing the panel above it back in the hatchback and then removing
a metal cover plate. It can also be reached by removing the panel
behind the seats and then another metal cover plate. The latter
method exposes the "belt and pulleys" side of the engine where you
could change your serpentine belt or replace an alternator. The
well-guarded drivetrain behind the cockpit is a 2.7-liter flat
6-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This
impressive combination puts out 245hp and 201 lb/ft of torque -
plenty of power to make this barely 3,000 lb. coupe an exhilarating
ride! Initial performance tests yielded results like 0-60mph in 5.7
sec. and � mile runs in 14.3 seconds - seriously respectable times
for a base model bone stock car in this price range in 07. Equally
impressive are fuel consumption ratings of 23mpg in the city and
32mpg on the highway.
Open the driver's door to find a very comfortable and stylish sandy
beige interior illuminated by working courtesy lights. Both doors,
the front trunk, and the hatchback can all be unlocked using one of
the 2 factory fobs. The driver's door panel shows only very light
wear and offers controls for power windows and mirrors. Both seats
are covered in beige leather that is in excellent condition. The
seats are both heated and are manually adjustable with
electronically powered back adjustment. Between the seats is a
center console with a storage box, emergency brake lever, ashtray,
and shifter for the 5-speed transmission. Just above the shifter on
the center of the dash are 3 buttons, one for the retractable rear
spoiler, another for "sport" mode (which firms up the handling
using the Porsche active suspension management system), and the
last to disable the Porsche stability management system (for
driving on a loose surface or in deep snow). Directly above is the
climate control system that delivers cold A/C, hot heat, and rear
defrost on demand. At the top is a new JVC KW-V830BT DVD/CD
receiver with an AM/FM tuner that also offers Bluetooth, a backup
camera, and a multitude of other features all controlled by a 6.8"
touchscreen. The driver is treated to a leather-wrapped steering
wheel on a tilt and telescopic column. There are also stalks on the
column that control the turn signals and headlight dimmer, onboard
computer, cruise control, and intermittent wipers. A crack-free
beige dash pad sits above a cluster of 3 gauges that offer both
digital and analog information. There is a speedometer, tachometer,
oil pressure, and fuel gauges, a digital clock and thermometer, an
odometer, and an info screen for the onboard computer. At the top
center of the dash is a chrono-stopwatch that swivels side to side
- perfect for watching your lap times on a track day. If you look
up you'll see a Homelink system that can be used to open your
garage door, turn on a light, or open a security gate. While still
looking up you can see that the rear view mirror has an automatic
anti-glare function that also works for the side mirrors. Both
visors have lighted vanity mirrors and the felt headliner is nice
and tight. On the passenger side are 2 cupholders that flip out
from a thin panel as well as a glovebox that contains the owner's
manual. Underfoot is a nice beige carpet topped off with brand-new
carpeted floormats. Around the back inside the hatchback is a
good-sized carpeted storage space, an 8" Kicker speaker, and a
service flap that offers easy access to add oil and antifreeze.
Also in the rear cargo area is a car cover and a Porsche banner for
your garage. At the front end of the car is another trunk (or
"frunk") that has a very deep storage well and access panels to a
Kicker amplifier, the car's original DVD/Navigation unit, and a
fill spout for brake fluid.
This Porsche comes with a clean CarFax and sports only 55,916
actual miles on the odometer - only 3,300 miles a year! If you're
