Vehicle Description
1954 Chevrolet Bel Air
VIN: C54J030104
Bel Air entered the Chevrolet lineup in 1950. Initially, only the
two-door hardtops in the Chevrolet model range were designated with
the Bel Air name from 1950 to 1952. With the 1953 model year, the
Bel Air name was changed from a designation for a unique body shape
to a premium level of trim applied across a number of body styles.
It is named after the wealthy Bel Air
neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles.
In 1953 and 1954, Bel Airs could be ordered as a convertible,
hardtop coupe, two- and four-door variant sedans. Many new options,
once only seen in more expensive luxury cars, were offered,
starting in 1953. This included power steering and the Guidematic
headlight dimmer in 1953, as well as power brakes, power 2-way
front seat and power front windows in 1954.
The car presented at auction was acquired in 1990 by the sellers
mother. It was love at first sight...she just had to have it. It
was a solid running and driving car to begin with but received
various restoration work over the years. As stated by the seller:
"Make a Friend Car. This was my mothers car which she loved to
drive to church, golfing, the grandkids games, etc. She always had
fun meeting new people everywhere she went in that car!"
The car received a re-paint in 1997 that still shows well today.
The car has always been stored inside and was well cared for. The
235 straight 6 is reported to "run good and the car drives
fine.
Following 30+ years as the curator of this Bel Air, the car passed
on to the owners estate a year ago. All reciepts of the restoration
work performed over the years is available with the car.
