Very cool and unique 1968 Volkswagen Squareback Type 3 for sale. This custom build called "Radical Raspberry" was completed in 2022 and featured in Hot VW's magazine in August of the same year. This special Squareback even earned an invitation to the gathering of the Hot VWs at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2022! Article available for download here.
The exterior is stunning and unique with its custom elongated rear picture windows along with several custom modifications including shaved door handles and cowl. It is professionally finished in Porsche Raspberry single-stage urethane from TCP Global with a smooth and glassy finish and outstanding alignments and rides on a set of cool polished Rivieras with no squares on the spokes, four and a half inches in the front wrapped in Firestone 135-R15s, and 5 inches at the rear with 205/65 R15 Toyas. The chrome, glass, and rubber have been replaced and refurbished.
Inside is a treat to ride in with an early Karmann Ghia dashboard including custom gauges with pink needles to match the stitching. The 65-inch cloth rag top from Legacy Ragtops includes polished rails and opens and closes easily sealing up nice and tight and the custom, nicely installed headliner looks fantastic. It has a black carpet throughout from TMI. It features comfortable black upholstery with pink stitching and matching door panels including rear hatch and, a polished custom leather-wrapped Formula front steering wheel.
The stock type 3 1600cc with dual Empi ICT carburetors starts, idles, and runs smoothly with plenty of power. It is paired with a Freeway Flyer style transmission with a period correct Scat drag fast shifter for super comfortable shifting and easy highway cruising.
The suspension is nice and tight and is slightly lowered in the rear using reindexed arms with lowered shocks in the front and adjustable spring plates in the rear. Braking is super responsive with four-wheel disc brakes all around with an Empi kit in the rear and stock disc brakes up front.
