For Sale: 1970 Ford F100 in Orange Grove, Texas

Vehicle Description

Details

This modified 1970 Ford F100 Ranger XLT is a long-wheelbase example that has been meticulously refurbished and customized. Delivered in Candyapple Red with a Dark Red cloth interior, it was originally equipped with a 360ci V8 engine with a manual 3-speed light-duty Ford transmission. Significant investment in 2018-2019 included a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration. The entire truck was stripped, the frame refinished and the body insulated and repainted in red. A custom red and black Katzkin leather interior was installed to match. The stock V8 was replaced with a more powerful, overhauled 460ci V8 with an RV camshaft and electronic ignition. Drive from the new engine is now sent to the rear wheels through a C6 3-speed automatic transmission. The electrical system has been upgraded to support a host of new technology including an electronic distributor, an engine monitoring system via an MSD auto transmission control unit, and a custom Soundstream audio system that is controlled by a vintage-styled stereo head unit and under-dash controls. The interior fuel tank was removed to accommodate a custom speaker housing fabricated to fit behind the seat and fuel is now stored in a single side-mounted tank. External styling was enhanced by lowering the suspension and replacing the wheels with 18” American Racing cast aluminum rims stopped by 4-wheel disc brakes. Inside, a classic-styled Dakota Digital dash was installed and now shows almost 3,800 miles since restoration, although the total mileage is unknown. To improve passenger comfort, an R134 Vintage Air conditioning system has been installed. The truck is located in Texas.

A third-party inspection and detailed photos show a clean, restored truck with significant pride of ownership. Great care has been taken to modernize and upgrade components to provide significant performance and conveniences to appeal to drivers and passengers alike. The repainted exterior is in good condition and shows only minor chipping around the side mirror. Front and rear window seals and weather stripping have been replaced and are also in good condition. The interior of the truck shows well and the inspection noted only normal wear to the piping. Mechanically, the truck performs as designed and all features operate as they should. The Kumho tires have 2022 date codes and all show plenty of tread left. The sale includes receipts from the restoration.

About the model

The fifth-generation Ford F-Series, which is known by enthusiasts as the "Bumpside," was introduced for the 1967 model year. The F-100 model series continued on with the same platform as the previous Fourth Generation F-Series but featured sharper styling and a larger cabin with comfort amenities. Since 1953 the F-100 was the entry-level light-duty pickup offered by Ford. The front Twin I Beam front suspension was carried over from the previous generation, featuring a smoother ride than the F-250 and F-350, which rode on heavier-duty suspension and drivetrain components. The F-100 was offered as a two-door standard cab with the option of a Styleside or Flareside bed in long or short bed configurations. Both beds could be optioned with a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive platform. Different years saw different engines. Offered were two six-cylinder engines, a 240cid, 300cid, and four V8's, 302cid, 352cid, 360cid, and a 390cid. Transmissions offered were Ford's Crusie-O-Matic 3-speed automatic, three-speed, and, later, 4-speed, manual depending on engine and drivetrain. Three trim levels were available catering to different levels of comfort, including options like A/C. Unique trims to 1967 were Base, Custom Cab, and Ranger. In 1970 a mid-model refresh featured many updated details, most notably styling updates. Four trims were available, the entry-level Custom, Sport Custom, mid-range Ranger, or range-topping Ranger XLT. Unique versions catering to specific buyers were available, including the Camper Special, Explorer Special, Contractor's Special, Farm and Ranch Special, and Heavy-Duty Special. These options were an indication that Ford was combining comfort and utility. 1972 would be the last year for fifth-generation production, with the Sixth Generation F-Series replacing it.
