Vehicle Description
None of us can ever really know what it's like being Captain
America. But, there are a few ways we can zero in on a time in
American history when real heroes were returning home from war.
This 1951 Willys Military Jeep M38 represents what it means to be
an American in the form of a proud, no-frills, go-anywhere,
do-anything truck. Painted in its original Army Green, this
utilitarian beast sports a side-mounted axe and shovel on the
passenger side, tow hooks and rope up front, and a supplemental gas
can mounted out back.
Under the steel hood sits a 134 cubic-inch inline-four-cylinder
engine topped with a one-barrel carburetor. That power is routed
through a three-speed manual transmission, which uses a shifter
inside the cabin tall enough to double as a walking cane. Two other
shorter shifters control the four-wheel drive transfer case.
Rebuilt Dualmatic hubs help this Jeep keep up its go-anywhere
persona, while new brake lines and hoses ensure you get there
safely.
