The Dodge Polara was introduced in 1960 as Dodge's top of the line
full size car. In 1962 the car was downsized to be a mid-sized car
and the name plate was now a step below the Custom 880. They were
very interesting cars that were redesigned every year and often
changed appearances within the same generations. It is interesting
to look at a 1st gen 1960 Polara and compare it to cars like this
2nd gen 1964 because in just 4 short years their look changed in
extreme ways. The muscle car "Hey Day" had not yet arrived but in
'64 you could definitely start to see the direction things were
heading. This 1964 Dodge Polara 500 Convertible is a very neat car
with a very unique look. It has nice Black paint paired with a
Black power top. It is the factory ordered colors but it has been
repainted at some point in its past. The car once belonged to a big
Mopar collector and he believed it to be the only triple Black
Polara 500 Convertible with a Street Wedge Motor but with limited
production numbers available that is undocumented. These cars had
very a very unique headlight and grill set up which is in good
condition. It was also ordered with premium grade trim which run
the length of the car and features an engine turned center piece.
All of the stock exterior chrome is nicely mounted in place
including the manually adjustable drivers side mirror. The car
rides on its original wheels which feature matching Black
paint.
Part of what makes this car special is the factory 426 ci 365 HP
Street Wedge motor that gets this classic moving down the road.
This was an optional motor and the amount of cars with this motor
that are still around is unknown. It is fitted with the correct 4
barrel carburetor and chrome valve covers/air cleaner which are
from the factory. It also has all the correct stuff like the front
sway bar, heavy duty suspension, and 11 inch heavy duty brakes
which were put on Street Wedge cars. The motor runs great and is
paired with a Torqueflite automatic transmission which sends power
back to the original rear with sure grip differential. Everything
on the car has been kept very stock except for the added Optima
battery.
The numbers according to Galen V. Govier.

The interior is its original Black vinyl which is in good condition
throughout. It has its factory bucket seats sitting to each side of
the original console. The console has storage, the shifter, the
tachometer and some very cool trim. The dash features all of its
original trim and gauges but an added Autometer liquid filled pro
comp Oil pressure gauge has been installed underneath on the
drivers side. The trunk has plenty of storage space and houses the
factory jack and mat. The undercarriage of the car is unrestored
but is all solid.
This is a really unique classic Mopar that would make a great
addition to any collection. It comes with a 1964 Polara Technical
Service manual and a very cool vintage advertisement.
