1967 alongside the Camaro, Pontiac's sporty F-body Firebird was
immediately successful and produced in first-generation form
through the strike-intended 1969 model year. The entire range of
Pontiac engine and drivetrain options was available with the
Firebird and a huge option list made it possible for buyers to
personalize their cars to their individual needs. This extremely
attractive and highly optioned 1968 Firebird serves as a fabulous
case in point. This exceptionally original 1968 Pontiac Firebird
hardtop is offered with just one repaint in the originally
specified Code R Solar Red, plus the original Code 2 Black Cordovan
vinyl roof covering, and the original Trim Code 253 Black vinyl
Strato-Bucket seat interior. Retaining the all original drivetrain,
the Firebird features ample power from the 265-horsepower, 2-barrel
350 cubic-inch Pontiac V-8 engine, which features correct
components. Other highlights include a center console and
console-mounted shifter for the Turbo-Hydramatic automatic
transmission, tilt steering, and handsome 14-inch Pontiac Rally II
wheels mounting new tires. Produced at GM's Lordstown, Ohio
assembly plant during the second week of May, 1968, this
outstandingly preserved and presented 1968 Pontiac Firebird was
purchased new from the local Pontiac dealer by A. Van Breda of
Crystal Lake, Illinois and includes the original purchase checks,
Pontiac warranty papers, and dealer-issued Protect-O-Plate warranty
card. Maintenance records are also included with this beautifully
preserved first-generation Firebird. At the time of writing, only
an approximate 50,300 miles are accumulated and believed original.
An automobile can only be original once, and this example is a
highly collectible and compelling find throughout, with only one
repaint. Freshly serviced and detailed, this well-documented 1968
Pontiac Firebird is ready to enjoy and appreciate. Be sure to
