Vehicle Description
STK 3732 1940 Ford Standard Five Window
Ford sales were solid in the late '30s and early '40s. Their
reasonably priced coupes and sedans were some of the best
performing cars of the era. The '40 Ford coupe was especially
popular with folks of the North Carolina hills. When set-up
correctly, these Fords were the perfect vehicle for moving 'hooch'.
Changes necessary to use a coupe as a good 'Runner' included
modifications to the passenger compartment/trunk to provide
additional storage space and an upgrade to the rear suspension
setup that added a transverse coil-spring 'dampener' to the leaf
spring that helped level the car when it was loaded with mason
jars. This coupe has these modifications, and the owner states that
this classic '40 Ford was exactly that - a 'Runner'.
The Ford coupe received a beautiful restoration in 2000 and has
been carefully maintained ever since. The handsome sheet metal was
refinished in Cloud Mist Grey, a '40 Standard color, and trimmed
with outstanding chrome/stainless accent pieces. Stock 16" steel
wheels w/factory hubcaps/trim rings mount meaty Firestone bias-ply
blackwalls and complete the exterior package. The interior is also
meticulously restored. Everything looks truly authentic - grey
cloth upholstery, stunning Bakelite dash, instrument cluster and
17" steering wheel - all showstoppers. The coupe is said to be
powered by a built 239ci flathead (model 59AB, '46-'48 engine). It
is equipped with a Holley '94' carburetor and sounds amazing
through the custom dual exhaust system. A 3-speed manual
transmission w/column shift transfers torque to the 'banjo'
differential. The chassis incorporates manual steering and 4-wheel
'Lincoln' hydraulic drum brakes. This stunning, historic Blue-Oval
is ready for your next hometown car show, parade, summer cruise-in,
or hooch run. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
