Vehicle Description
2002 Dodge Viper GTS ACR Coupe
The first mention of the ACR came during the second-gen Viper,
officially named SR II and produced from 1996 to 2002. The package
was available only for the GTS coupe, while ACR abbreviation stood
for American Club Racer, designating a car built for enthusiasts
ready to take the Viper to the tracks.
For consignment, a low mileage example, with the odometer showing a
mere 8,957 miles but a title showing mileage exempt, of a trained
snake if you will but certainly not tamed. It comes to us in the
form of the GTS from the year 2002, and it has the ACR, (American
Club Racing), package which is for those who would like to drive on
a track situation. Still with all the comforts of home are on so
don't feel like you will be sitting in an aluminum tub with 5 point
belts and little padding, but you can still take it for a full
hissing ride and carve some curves on the track or street. On the
street just be wary of the fuzz.
Exterior
The definition of the pony car design with that super looooong
hood, swept back front glass and gracefully curving roof line which
lands gently on to the rear spoiler. A neoprene bumper with deep
inset running lights on the bottom and a split non chrome opening
for the grille curves upward and meets the hood which is carved out
on either side to make space for the mosquito eye smooth
headlights. A small opening in the hood center for the engine to
breathe, and all this bathed in perfectly preserved Viper Race
Yellow Clearcoat paint. No stripes on this racer, just pure
screaming yellow zonker. Those front quarters have a curved cove in
them just before the doors, and a wide rocker panel in the yellow
is just below. Decal black knockout type badging is just before the
cove and a low roofline gently carries to the rear large greenhouse
glass which is basically the back of the car's top. This then ends
in an integrated yellow spoiler and a curved rear with more
mosquito eye wrap around tail lights. Another neoprene bumper is on
the bottom. Below this is a small diffuser and in the cars center
just below the roll pan is dual pipes for the exhaust exit.
18-inchhoneycomb wheels are wrapped in front 275/35ZR18 rubber and
the back has bigger 335/30ZR18 paws. Ssssssss.
Interior
A swing of those wildly sculpted doors and we see black smooth
seamless vinyl molded to make a simple door panel with a molded in
armrest. The actuator and door lock toggle are molded in as well.
Nice curved high back buckets have extra padding on the bolsters
and there are actually 5 point racing belts installed within these
black leather babies. A wide console races through the buckets and
here is the handbrake and shifter and power window toggles. On the
dash center are the temperature turn knobs, a digital AM/FM/CD
radio, a trio of AC vents and above on the dash top are some inset
white faced gauges all lined up neatly. The dash takes over and
goes to the driver's side where there is a curved visor for the
instruments which are dual white faced sweep speedo and tachometer.
A circular warning panel is also next to the speedometer on the
bottom of the dash. A air bagged steering wheel fronts the dash and
black carpeting covers the floors and is very clean. Above the
headliner is also neatly molded and covered with some fuzzy
broadcloth in black too.
Drivetrain
Under that long front flipping pony car hood to expose the heart of
the matter and literally it is topped in Viper badged red castings.
It is a 8.0 liter V10 and its output is 460hp. It has EFI and a T56
6-speed transmission. A 3.07 limited slip rear axle is installed.
All very clean and organized under this hood.
Undercarriage
This car is a low mileage car and of course the underside looks the
part. It is very clean and mostly covered with black steel covering
panels for better undercarriage slipstreaming. You really only see
the engine bottom end and the rear axle sticking out, all else is
covered. What's underneath though is competition independent coil
springs suspension on all 4 corners and there are race valved
double adjusting shocks and coil springs, Power disc brakes slow
you down so you can carve the curves.
Drive-Ability
Behind this wheel one gets the feeling of driving a piece of
sculpture. You peer across that long hood and then pressing the gas
you can feel the awesome power this car comes with. It is properly
matched by its nimbleness and easy steering. You will need those
racing belts as this car can pull some G's! A strong runner with
comforts of home.
This Viper is really ready for the track so grab the keys and belt
in as you will be in for a treat of sight and sound. All well
preserved and ready to race or just bite people on the street with
the venom this car possesses.
