Introduced in 2002, the second generation Saab 9-3 was designed as a competitor to premium offerings like the BMW 3 series and Mercedes-Benz C-class. However its FWD platform and GM design meant it was never a real competitor. Despite this, the 9-3 offered a lot for the money including excellent safety ratings, stylish designs, and powerful standard engines. Starting with the earlier 900, the convertible versions became an instant success. Offering up to 260hp in turbocharged Aero trim, the 9-3 finally offered sporty performance and quick acceleration.

The Saab-spec version of GM's 2.8-liter DOHC all-aluminum V-6 pulls well and sounds good. When the turbo is fully spooled up this is a genuinely quick car with 0-60 in the 6-second range. The aero trim also provides a different and sporty suspension tune as well as the absence of torque steer. The six-speed automatic transmission is a quick and smooth operator and gives you the choice of steering wheel-mounted paddles or the console shifter if you'd like to control it yourself. Owned by the same owner for the last five years and very well taken care of, this 9-3 comes with two sets of keys as well as the owner's manual. The car goes down the road with confidence and feels sporty and composed. Cool, comfortable, safe, and quirky, these Saab convertibles are no BMW replacement, but they are a special car nonetheless.
