Vehicle Description
2001 Chevrolet Silverado Yenko ST Tribute
Yenko Chevrolet's history dates back to 1929, the year Frank Yenko
opened a dealership for selling Durant cars. After the Durant
company ended in 1932, Yenko opened a Chevrolet dealership in
Pennsylvania in Bentleyville in 1934. In 1949, Yenko opened a
second Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg, nearby in the same
state. In 1957, Frank's son Don Yenko assumed ownership of the
dealership. Known for his modified Chevrolets, Don managed the
dealership until 1982, at which time he sold the business.
Known for definite power, the Yenko dealership has been modifying
cars to produce more horsepower and better handling for many years.
For consignment, a tribute in the form of this 2001 Chevrolet
Silverado dressed to the nines as a Yenko ST Tribute. Oh and by the
way it's probably one of the fastest trucks you will drive, and its
looks great gracing our Hallowed Halls. But hurry, it's tried to
break out of said halls already, so it won't be long!
Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices
installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and
federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on
public highways in your area.
Exterior
The aggressive aero design to the grille and lower bumper kind of
gives it away, and if you are still not convinced it has a Yenko
hood which sports a large scoop all bathed in white with a black
sYt badge in the center. This hood runs back to tinted glass and is
flanked on either side by straight steel front quarters that frame
the 20-inch Weld beadlock wheels which are wrapped in 245/45ZR20
rubber. Above a black trim spear begins and runs to the back of the
bed where it widens and takes the upturn and has a knockout white
Yenko/ST badge which is shades of the Yenko Camaros of yore. The
cab is white and has tinted side and deep tinted rear glass and
blackened surrounds. Rear quarters are framing 17-inch Weld
beadlock wheels wrapped in wider 305/45R17 Mickey Thompspn rubber
on back. The perfect bed is a spray liner and does not have any
marks on it. This is a black spray and lots also in the gate. The
rear is an aero bumper painted white. Applause please for a nicely
minded gapped, deep paint, and no rust presentation. Take a
bow.
Interior
As we prepare to enter I'm wringing my hands with excitement as
after I describe this interior I get to drive this beast! I pass
curvaceously molded black panels that house the armrest, power
toggles and a lower storage bin. Inserted to the top of the panel
is a suede looking broadcloth also in black and it adds a nice soft
touch to the molded part. I slip by the A pillar gauges mounted to
the windshields side and sit down on nice clean overstuffed gray
broadcloth buckets. There is a wide console between these buckets
and it has a spacious storage bin and some cupholders. As I scan my
eyes upward to the dash center I pass climate knobs and a pink LED
readout Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo unit. This and the gauges in front
of the driver are all mounted into an Escalade dash which houses a
series of round inset gauges. The steering wheel fronting the dash
is stock factory style. Clean charcoal gray carpeting floods the
floors and above is a lighter gray headliner with an upper console
as well. The cockpit of a race car? YUP! only it's a truck.
Drivetrain
Stuffed under that Yenko hood is an all new performance driveline
which includes a 370ci LS V8 which has been totally rebuilt now
with a Callies crank and rods, JE pistons, and an LSA supercharger.
The mill has PCR aluminum heads and EFI. On the back is a 4-speed
4L89E high performance transmission with a TCI 3200rpm stall
converter. Further back are Moser components and axles with an LPW
Differential girdle. The axle weighs in at 10 bolts and a 4.10
ratio with Posi. For the exhale we are using Kooks headers and a
glass pack style for the mufflers and we note the absence of
catalytic converters. Contain yourself!
Undercarriage
Just absolutely perfectly restored with black structural parts and
suspension and gray steel floor pans. There is a balanced
driveshaft and independent coil spring front suspension and rear
leaf springs with Caltracs bars. Power disc brakes brings you to a
slow crawl very quickly.
Drive-AbilitySo all the wringing my hands was over and I waist for
the test drive. The truck fired up with an almighty roar and off I
went albeit in a flash. The truck had seemingly unlimited power,
great handling and seemingly unlimited straight line speed.
Definitely the fastest pickup truck I've driven in my history here
at CAM. All functions were working just great.
A Silverado Yenko Tribute which is all buttoned up and ready to
roll albeit very fast. Need I say more?
