Mechanical Under the hood of this 1970 Chevelle SS is its CKU L78
stamped 396 cubic inch, which would have been rated at 375
horsepower from the factory, but really put out 425 horsepower on
the dyno . It has the Winters Foundry aluminum intake, Holley
performance carb, disc brakes, factory cast iron exhaust manifolds
flowing back to the dual exhaust, performance spark plug wires,
factory cowl hood open air element air cleaner with chrome lid and
375 HP decal, power steering, power brakes, and front disc brakes.
The L78 engine from the factory came with a hot solid-lifter cam,
11.5:1 compression, big square-port heads with upsized 2.19 intake
valves, and cast aluminum high-rise intake manifolds with a Holley
cfm. The engine bay is highly detailed as is the chassis with the
dual exhaust running out under the rear bumper thru chrome tips on
each side, and the 4-speed manual transmission that runs to a
12-bolt rear end. Add in and the good grip of wide black sidewall
tires on 18/20' polished and grey mag wheels, a modified suspension
with QA1 Double Adjustable Coil Overs, lowered stance, disc brakes,
12-bolt rear end, and you get this big block which is a true
driver's machine. Interior The restored tan bucket seats with
headrest and matching rear seat interior looks as new and
everything looks correct and just like it came from the factory
back in 1970. It even has the Chevrolet radio in the great factory
dash housing the optional U14 round gauge package that includes the
6500 redline tachometer, 4-speed shifter, tri-spoke SS steering
wheel, matching carpet and door panels. The result is a Chevelle SS
that feels like a time piece as it is in excellent condition top to
bottom. Exterior Our restored Chevelle is finished in great red
paint flowing over the cowl induction hood with the black SS
stripes and hood pins, slick panels, blacked-out grille, bulging
fenders, and the hardtop profile. The chrome bumpers, wheel arch
trim, Chevelle and SS 396 badging really look great and draw people
to the car at shows or even gas stations, and even the chassis
looks super clean too. Conclusion The 1970 Chevrolet SS 396/375
Horsepower L78 here at Skyway Classics with a real CK co
