foreign built small trucks like the 70 Series pickup? We get ask
that question on a regular basis. The answer is President Lyndon B
Johnson's 1964 tariff nicknamed The Chicken Tax. The Chicken Tax is
a 25% tariff imposed on imported light trucks in the U.S. It
originated in 1964 as a response to European tariffs on American
chicken imports. Over time, while most trade barriers have
decreased significantly, this tax remains, affecting light truck
imports. Initially, it covered potato starch, dextrin, brandy, and
light trucks, but only the tariff on light trucks persists. This
tax emerged due to tensions over American chicken flooding the
European market post-WWII, causing European countries to impose
tariffs and controls to protect their local producers. Despite
efforts to negotiate, the standoff led to the imposition of the

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series was the rugged straight axle
replacement for the 40 Series. Known for its indestructible build
quality, offroad ability, and traversing every corner of the globe
in hundreds of configurations. The FZJ75 presented here today is a
highly sought after configuration featuring the 1FZ 4.5L 24-Valve
Inline-6 and sourced from the dry climate of the Middle East.
American consumers are familiar with the reliable 1FZ engine found
in our 80 Series Land Cruisers and Lexus LX450 models.Our 1998 Land
Cruiser pickup is an excellent and well cared for left-hand drive
example with removable top and fold down windshield. Car Cave
sourced this FJZ75 from Oman where it was previously used by the
Oman government. The 1FZ engine runs smoothly after a tune-up, fuel
system cleaning, and new carburetor. The 5 speed transmission
glides through gears and the transfer case shifts into all
available combinations. The hi/low transfer box has options for 2wd
Hi, 4wd Hi, Neutral, and 4wd Low.Exterior paint is finished in a
recent high quality full tear-down respray of Toyota Beige with
tri-color graphics over light brown upholstery and vinyl floors. We
acquired this truck in 2023 and imported it to the US from the
Middle East. Car Cave performed a full tune-up on the Land Cruiser
including spark plugs, spark plug wires, carburetor, fuel filter,
fuel system flush, coolant flush, wheel alignment, tire balance,
and belts. We removed the entire windshield wiper system,
disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated all the components so the
wipers moved freely. Additional work included repairing the AC
system, replacing the lug studs or retreading as needed, lug nuts,
replacing the master power window switch, and replacing the trim
panel. The truck was missing a passenger side sun visor, so we
replaced it with a brand new Toyota OEM visor. A new matching
driver's visor (not pictured) was ordered but was not received by
the time we took the photos.The truck is equipped with 235/95R15
Dunlop Grandtrek Sand Tires on factory split rim 15? steel wheels.
Factory options include power windows, power locks, power mirrors,
air conditioning, dual fuel tanks (sub fuel tank), ash tray, and
tilt wheel. Other unique factory features include a headache rack,
bed mounted full-size spare, manual throttle control, integrated
side steps, locking fuel caps, sliding rear window, and original
Toyota tape player. At the rear of the vehicle, you will find a
tube and diamond plate bumper with center mounted Pintle hitch. We
do have a set of yellow-tinted fog lights and bumper corners that
are included with the sale of the truck.70 Series are known for
their front and rear straight axles. This FJZ75 has a power disc
brake front straight axle. The rear features the larger 9.5' rear
drum brake axle with 4.111:1 gear ratio designed for heavy load
capacity. Power steering makes this LC easy to turn and drive. The
three-spoke steering wheel frames a 200-km/h speedometer and
auxiliary gauges for coolant temperate and fuel level. Above the
Toyota factory tape player sits the sub fuel tank gauge.A great
running dry climate Land Cruiser that would be perfect for numerous
uses and applications. We could picture this truck running through
the Rocky Mountains in the winter or the summer heat in rural
