Vehicle Description
This 1966 Batmobile Replica is a must-have movie/television car for
any collector that is sure to turn heads at any car show or while
cruising down the road! In the history of Hollywood, few vehicles
from television shows or movies are more iconic than the Batmobile.
Although the Batmobile's design changed from the original Adam West
'66 Batmobile, to the 1989 Michael Keaton version, to the recent
Dark Knight Tumbler, to many folks, the 1966 Batmobile is THE
Batmobile and every subsequent version never lived up to the
original. The origin story of the original Batmobile is rather
interesting. Initially, the television studio contracted with
automobile customizer Dean Jeffries who began fabricating the
Batmobile from a 1959 Cadillac. However, it became apparent that
Jeffries would be unable to deliver the finished project in time to
begin filming so the studio ended up contracting with George Barris
instead. As legend has it, Barris purchased the 1955 Lincoln Futura
concept car from Ford for $1 and it would end up serving as the
donor car for the original Batmobile. The Futura's body was
primarily designed by Ford's chief designed William M. Schmidt, who
was said to have taken inspiration from the sea creatures he saw
while on a Caribbean vacation. Ultimately, the Lincoln Futura would
make its debut at the 1955 Chicago Automobile Show and its
breathtaking design mesmerized the general public and would also
serve as an inspiration for the 1956 and 1957 Lincoln passenger car
lineup. In 2013, Barris would ultimately sell his original
Batmobile at auction, fetching nearly $5 million and coming down to
a coin flip. This 1966 Batmobile Replica was built using a late
'70s Lincoln/Ford drivetrain with custom chassis and fiberglass
body. Under the hood on this '66 Batmobile Replica is a 400 Cubic
Inch V8 engine fed by a single 2 barrel carburetor. The 400 V8 is
mated to a C6 Automatic transmission that is shifted using a
horseshoe-style shifter, which makes this Batmobile an easy car for
just about anybody to drive. This 1966 Replica Batmobile comes
equipped with several creature comforts that simplify operating
this iconic crime-fighting machine! With power steering, wiggling
in and out of a tight space at the local car show or drive-in is
almost effortless and the overall driving experience is much
improved. Power front disc brakes is another welcome addition since
it makes bringing this '66 Batmobile to a complete stop much easier
as well. This Batmobile Replica is also equipped with a backup
camera which makes backing up a bit less precarious, especially
with the car's challenging sight-lines. The fiberglass body is
absolutely gorgeous, finished in Black and Orange Batman livery
that is one of the highlights of this stand-out example. The
interior of this 1966 Batmobile Replica is absolutely stunning! The
bucket seats have been upholstered in beautiful black vinyl with
red piping accents. The black carpeting, door panels, center
console, and dash have a great look as well. Instrumentation
includes a 120 MPH Edsel saucer-style speedometer, a temperature
gauge, an oil pressure gauge, an amp gauge, and a gasoline gauge.
The Batmobile "Homing Receiver" raises and lowers with a simple
flick of a switch. This Batmobile Replica also comes equipped with
a "Bat Scanner Activator," "Detect-A-Scope," spinning beacon light,
"Emergency Bat-Turn Lever," "Batphone," and other various lights
and accessories that add incredible pizazz to an already impressive
automobile. In the center of the dash is a custom-built Batman
sound effects system that comes preloaded with all of the iconic
Batman sounds. Finishing off this '66 Batmobile is the rear-mounted
propane-powered "Jet Burner" flame-thrower that shoots flames out
of the back of the car. Whether you're buying your first classic
car or you're adding to your existing collection of classics, this
1966 Batmobile Replica would make an excellent choice. Give
