1985 Lingenfelter Corvette Z-51 Highlights
A rare Lingenfelter C4 Corvette with only 1,100 actual miles on the odometer! What else can we say?
No generation of Corvette emphasizes the transition from muscle car to all-out sports car better than the C4. And you'd be hard pressed to find a 1,100 mile Lingenfelter modified version in this like new condition. If you are in the market for a collectable Corvette that stands out in the crowd then look no further than this awesome Chevy!
Through Information we obtained it was learned that the original owner bought the car new from Norwood Chevrolet in Warwick, Rhode Island. The car was then sent to the builder who removed the stock 1985 engine and put a brand new 1986 Corvette “Bowtie” engine in the car. In those days, these were very hard to come by as the blocks were made with a high nickel content and used almost exclusively for racing. From there it went to Lingenfelter for him to work his magic. What did he end up with? The new engine was modified to 420 cubic inches and features an Accel 1,000-CFM fuel-injection system, an auxiliary oil cooler, Delco electronic ignition, MSD ignition wires, tubular exhaust headers, and Lingenfelter-branded valve covers. A Borla exhaust system was fitted to handle the expelled gas duty for this powerhouse.
When it came to the drivetrain, Mr. Lingenfelter paired this engine with a legendary Rossler Transmission. The torque converter of choice was obtained from Art Car and was paired with a 3.07:1 differential. 16″ Gotti multi-piece wheels were also added during the modification and are mounted with Dunlop SP Sport D50 M2 tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and the Z51 Performance Handling Package features gas-charged Delco/Bilstein shocks, higher-rated mono-leaf fiberglass springs, stabilizer bars, and quicker steering gear. Braking is handled by power-assisted calipers over discs at all four corners. Factory power rack and pinion steering makes this Vette easy to control.
After all his efforts, the original owner kept the car in his collection for 27-years and as luck would have it, no other than Mecum Auction owner Dana Mecum personally visited him and bought the car when it had 172 miles on the odometer. Now a couple collectors later the car has just under 1,100 miles and runs, drives, and performs like the day it was completed.
The red paint was recently professionally polished to a shimmering shine with Ceramic Coating applied immediately after. We'd say it looks better than the day it rolled off the Bowling Green assemble line. You'll also enjoy the acrylic removable roof panel, front fog lights, and pop-up headlights.
The cabin features bolstered bucket seats upholstered in red leather joined by color-coordinated door panels. Features include a power-adjustable driver's seat, air conditioning, cruise control, a Delco-Bose sound system with an AM/FM/cassette stereo, an onboard computer, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The air conditioning system has been converted to use R134a refrigerant.
