For Sale at Auction: 1971 Plymouth Barracuda in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

The E-Body 1971 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda is considered to be among the most potent and legendary American supercars ever built. There were 114 produced in total for 1971: 107 hardtops and seven convertibles. This HEMI 'Cuda hardtop is one of just 48 built for 1971 with Chrysler's TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Finished in the factory-original Code FC7 In Violet paint, it is a confirmed matching-numbers example as inspected and appraised in 2004 by noted Chrysler expert Galen Govier, including the engine, transmission, body, Fender Tags and Chrysler Production Broadcast Sheets. Assembled at Chrysler's Hamtramck, MI, plant near Detroit, the 'Cuda's factory options were many, including the A01 Light Group, A34 Super Track Pack, A62 Rallye Cluster (including tachometer, electric clock, 160-mph speedometer, trip odometer, oil pressure gauge and wood-grained instrument cluster applique), C16 console, D34 TorqueFlite transmission, E74 426ci 2x4-barrel HEMI V8 engine, FC7 High Impact paint, G11 tinted glass, G36 racing mirrors, J55 undercoating, R11 solid-state AM radio, S77 power steering and U84 F60x15 raised-white-letter tires. In addition to the aforementioned Govier appraisal report, factory options added $1,839.85 to the 'Cuda's base price, confirmed by a copy of the HEMI 'Cuda's Advance Dealer Shipping Notice issued on March 26, 1971, from Chrysler to selling dealer L.P. Steuart Silver Spring Inc. of Silver Spring, MD. The dealer's New Car Pre-Delivery Service Inspection form was duly completed on May 1, 1971, and a copy is on file with the 'Cuda, with data that includes the vehicle's Body Type (E), Paint Code (FC7), Serial Number matching the last six VIN digits, H6XW Trim Code denoting High Grade Vinyl Bucket Seats White & Black and the HEMI engine number, plus confirmation of the car's original mechanical equipment, including the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. A highly detailed rotisserie was completed by professionals prior to the car's inspection and appraisal by Galen Govier in April 2004. Three Fender Tags are present to the vehicle, with two required to list all factory options, including the all-important R1B denoting the car's 1971 HEMI production at Hamtramck, the 26-inch HEMI-spec radiator, plus the "HEMI Fender" Tag. Documented and professionally restored, this 1971 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda hardtop is from the last model year for this everlasting Mopar legend. From the Frank Tiegs Collection.
