Vehicle Description
This 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 is powered by a rear-mounted,
liquid-cooled, light alloy 90-degree V6 engine with a single
overhead camshaft and crossflow cylinder heads. The cylinder bore
is 91mm with a 73mm stroke and a displacement of 2,849cc. This
DMC-12 has a power rating of 130hp, a maximum torque of 208 ft/lbs
and a compression rating of 8.8:1. The original hood of the
DeLorean had louvers running down both sides, including a fuel
filler flap to simplify fuel filling. These cars typically had a
locking fuel cap to prevent fuel tampering or theft by siphoning.
In late 1981, the fuel flap was removed from the hood (although the
hood louvers remained). The final styling for the hood included the
removal of the louvers, resulting in a completely flat hood. This
final version was on all 1982-83 model year vehicles. In 2016
reconditioning was completed at DeLorean Motor Company Midwest on
all components susceptible to aging and embrittlement, such as
seals, hoses and tires. A new upgraded stainless-steel exhaust
system, radiator reservoir and a Kenwood sound system were also
installed. Built in August 1981, this car retains the original hood
details and has 21,024 miles (not indicated on title).
