Vehicle Description
1962 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop
A fair amount of the classics that come through the doors here at
Classic Auto Mall are of a caliber that is more show than actual
go. These are all wonderful cars, however when you were a kid, did
you dream of trailering your car to shows, turning the key only
when the sun is shining, and only driving short distances for fear
the odometer would turn an important milestone? Bet you did not,
and there have been several consignors coming through our door that
are unloading their classics for that very reason, they are tired
of that routine.
If you want a great runner, you can hop in and drive it on any trip
short or long, and if it rains, roll the windows up! This is the
car for you, if you are a mid-century modern bow tie fan, and don't
want the hassle of rummaging through endless junkyards for parts,
or spending money on expensive repairs, the consignor has already
done this for you. A beautifully restored Chevrolet Impala, with an
updated 350ci V8, a beige and black striped and button panel
interior which is pristine, and literally a 61 year old everyday
driver, look no further.
Exterior
Bathed in endless depth black, the steel straight evenly gapped
panels are wave free, and fit like it just left the factory. A few
scratches and former repairs are evident but these are minor
inconveniences on this everyday driver car. All brightwork is
beautiful, and correct badging is seen overall. The car sports a
shiny front and rear aluminum panel to house dual head and triple
tail lights, and chromed script type Impala badge in its rear
quarter, now that's 60's cool! Curved wraparound front glass with a
blue sun filtering coating at the top stretches across the back of
the hood, and shows in very good condition. There is even a hitch
to pull your Scotty Camper. Chrome galore, polished 15-inch Torque
Thrust wheels and 215/70R15 tires complete the look of bouffant era
love.
Interior
Beige vinyl with black striped inserts on the seats, buttoned
square panel stitched uppers, and plain bolsters cover the split
backed bench in the front and full bench with central speaker in
back. These chairs are simply cool and present as excellent. The
door panels take on the horizontal stitched and buttoned version of
this seat motif, and show a smattering of chrome with the door
actuators, window cranks, and buttons all of which present in good
condition. Upfront, an inverted V design utilizes a big padded tan
vinyl overhang and machined aluminum with small squares design.
This sparkles with chromed knobs and an original AM radio. An
aftermarket tachometer hangs from the column as to a newer trio of
gauges from the bottom of the dash. Also AC has been added and it
is in under the dash box form. The original beige plastic clad over
chrome emblazoned steering wheel fronts the quintessential Chevy
styled speedo, and mileage clock. It has wonderful 60's shifterand
signal levers. Gold carpeting covers the floors and it's like new
as is the tight tan headliner. We can also note the trunk is clean
enough and probably large enough to live in, and is wrapped with
textured trunk paint and no rust.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a mostly unrestored engine bay sits an orange
painted newer 350ci V8. It has a single 4-barrel carburetor on top,
and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission on back. A 3.36 posi
rear axle is mounted way back. Headers and a FlowMaster muffler
exhaust is on for the exhale.
Undercarriage
A light dusting of surface rust is seen on the frame and floor
pans. The rust is a bit heavier on some areas of the rockers but
still structurally sound. Front independent coil springs suspension
is on, and in back 3 link with coil springs is seen. Power disc
brakes are now in front and power drums in back. A bit of a modern
upgrade.
Drive-Ability
The car fired easily and drovelike a 60's dream. I Imagined my gal
donned in her miniskirt nestled up to my side all in her brownie
sunglasses and me with my wayfarers on and straw hat with a feather
in it. Ahhhh but I digress. Braking was solid and bias free and the
transmission was smooth as silk. All functions were a go Houston,
BEEP!
All careful and painstaking care was taken for this car. It is
really a solid piece survivor, and could really be an everyday
driver. Imagine the looks you'll get when pulling into that front
row space reserved by your co-workers because you drive this mid
century modern beauty!
