Keeping with its tradition, Triumph introduced its model TR4A in 1965. The 4A was altered just slightly from the TR4 in order to address ride comfort. The only difference between the TR4A and the TR4 was the use of an independent rear suspension instead of the live rear axle. TR4A’s produced with the new independent rear suspension were marked with a badge that had the letters ‘IRS’.
The addition of the independent rear suspension with the many other changes of the TR4 made the car quite popular and even successful on the race track. The track of the TR4 was enlarged and rack-and-pinion steering was utilized. This helped to make the car handle much more predictable and stable.
This 1967 Triumph TR4A is finished in black over red vinyl and powered by an overbored 2,186cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, (IRS) independent rear suspension, dual SU carburetors, 15″ Minator wheels, a red boot cover, a luggage rack, wood trim, and an AM/FM stereo.
Eight-spoke 15″ Minator wheels feature knock-off style center caps and are mounted with a mixed set of 195/65 tires. The car is equipped with an independent rear suspension, and braking is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The seats have been reupholstered in red vinyl with white piping, and the carpets have been replaced. Equipment includes a red boot cover, banjo-style steering wheel, wood shift knob, heater, lap seat belts, rubber floor mats, and an AM/FM stereo.
Jaeger instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and four auxiliary gauges.
The five-digit odometer shows 22,000 miles, and the true mileage is unknown.
The 104 bhp inline-four was rebuilt to 2,186cc in 2018 with 87mm pistons, an aftermarket camshaft, lightweight tappets and dual SU carburetors. Additional work consisted of fitting an aluminum radiator and replacing the heater valve and water pump. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox.
There is no CARFAX history due to the age of this Classic Triumph. The vehicle was acquired from the previous owner in Portland, Oregon and was imported to Richmond, British Columbia, Canada in March 2022.
