She is unique amongst the long line of Grand Wagoneers that have passed through our doors as she is the lowest mile Grand we have ever, ever sold. We sold her for the first time back in 2015 wearing just 24,086 original miles, In the last 9 years she has carefully covered 3,000 additional miles. Low mile 40 year old convertibles are everywhere because many were just used on sunny summer weekends. Low mile 40 year old 4 wheel drive SUV’s are a completely different and unique animal.
Carfax confirms the super low 27,100 miles are true, clicking up nice and slow over the decades with no accidents reported against her.
Because of her extreme low miles, including being well looked after by another Grand Wagoneer restoration specialist before she came to us, she is not in need of our full frame off restoration treatment. Still, rest assured, there is a great deal of cosmetic and mechanical/electrical sorting we are doing as we look after this very special ultimate low mile example and at the same time, preserving much of her factory original low mile qualities.
Presently she is undergoing a full color conversion into the almost never seen and stunning Colorado Red. That of course includes not just the exterior painted surfaces but likewise the door jams, engine bay and all the exposed interior cabin metal pieces that are meant to be the same color as the exterior.
New exterior vinyl wood trim will be installed along with new vinyl wood siding fitted inside the trim. The whitewall tires were installed here, having only road testing miles on them. The undercarriage photos also display a new spare tire. The front grille, wheels, bumpers and balance of the exterior brightwork presently in extremely strong condition with just slight usage and wear evident, reflective of her super low miles travelled.
The honey interior cabin is a masterpiece and is in excellent condition with again, only the slightest usage and ageing present. The leather seats, carpeting, even the floor mats, appear to us as factory original. – A word about the carpeting- Although you can come close to the original color with new carpeting, the original type deep pile shag carpeting is no longer produced. That is why we have even kept the original carpet. Yes it remains in excellent shape but is is also not replaceable in the shag configuration. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer original interior in a vintage Grand Wagoneer anywhere. The operating luxurious features by 1985 standards include the power windows, seats, mirrors, the original factory AM/FM stereo, cruise control and the all important air conditioning.
Remember also, for the most retro-classic Grand Wagoneer enthusiast, the 1985 model year was the final year to offer the much-loved traditional dashboard layout with the round gauges and toggle switches.
The 360ci V8 motor is running strong. We have installed the most important upgrade for any vintage Grand Wagoneer- Fuel injection. The old carburetor is gone. That upgrade alone adds a throttle body, electric fuel pump, new engine harness, electronic ignition module oxygen sensor, electronic speed sensor, ignition wire set, distributer cap and rotor, spark plugs and chrome ignition coil. The transmission and 4 wheel drive (both High & Low) systems have been serviced along with the electricals, air conditioning and mechanical components.

Still, and here is the most honest paragraph you have perhaps ever seen from a restoration house/dealer, in some ways these Jeeps were terrible even when they were new. We can’t change the method these were built by the factory. In many respects the manufacturer used outdated technology and manufacturing methods and as a restorer, we will always be compromised by that circumstance. Did you know you can remove the front grill from a final year 1991 Grand Wagoneer and behind it still see the round cut out holes for the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer headlights? That is just one example. Therefore, please understand you will do more maintenance and servicing of a vintage Grand Wagoneer than a modern piece, even one we have looked after. That is just a truth, fellow enthusiast. If you don’t have the un-excitability and tolerance for that, then let us say to you candidly, don’t buy one. But let us also remind you that it is indeed that old school style and looks of a Grand Wagoneer that have made them so ever popular today.
