Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this iconic 1957 Ford
Thunderbird. Dressed in a slick respray of its original color of
Raven Black and sporting lots of gleaming brightwork, this baby
bird really grabs your attention! The chrome front bumper and egg
crate grille are in very good condition and shine in the light. The
hood is accented with a bulging chrome-grated air scoop that really
gives the car a sporty look. The fenders both feature bright
"Thunderbird" badges and angled louvers as well as functional air
intake vents that can be opened from inside. The Kelsey Hayes wire
wheels wrapped in wide white wall Firestone bias-ply tires really
pop against the black body and add to the "personal luxury vehicle"
look that Ford was going for with this car. The rear wheels are
partially covered by removable fender skirts with a cool chrome
accent piece. Bright chrome in good condition graces the windows,
side mirror, and door handles as well. At the rear of the car, it's
the tail fins and round "jet engine" tail lights that steal the
show. The chrome rear bumper is as bright as the one up front and
features oval exhaust exits through both sides as well as
bumperettes with black rubber guards. When it comes to the top of
the car, this Thunderbird has you covered three ways with a black
hardtop with port-hole windows, a like-new black convertible top
with a clear rear window, and a white tonneau cover. The hardtop is
fully functional but would need refurbishment to be of the same
caliber as the rest of the car. Under the hood is a clean and tidy
stock-looking engine bay that's home to a 312ci V8 that was
originally factory-rated at 245hp. The red block is topped with
finned aluminum logo valve covers, a period-correct intake, Holley
4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner complete with a
gasket to collect air from the hood scoop. While under the hood
you'll see that this T-Bird is equipped with Ford's "Master Guide"
power steering as well as "Swift-Sure" power drum brakes. Open the
driver's door to find a stunning white interior. The door panels
are quite stylish with curved armrests and machined swirl-pattern
aluminum inserts. The white vinyl bench seat is in excellent
condition and has surely been recovered. The dash features a
flawless overhanging padded white vinyl top with an arc above the
gauge cluster. The machined aluminum inserts travel onto the dash
where they serve as a backdrop to the round gauges, black knobs and
pulls, heater controls, and a working Town Country AM radio. This
wrap-around panel helps to give the interior a cockpit feel, a
design element that would stay with the T-Bird line for many years.
There are working gauges for fuel and temperature, a speedometer
and tachometer, a clock (inop.), and warning lights for Oil and
Gen. The heater and fan are both operational, as are the 2-speed
windshield wipers. Ahead of the driver, perched on a chrome-wrapped
column, is a beautiful white 3-spoke OEM steering wheel with a
working horn ring and colorful logo center cap. To the right, on
the floor, is the shifter for the Ford-O-Matic automatic 3-speed
transmission. That transmission is mated to a 9" rear end with 3:10
gears. Covering the floor is good quality black hook loop carpet.
The side kick panels both feature chrome vents with levers that
open the exterior fender vents to let fresh air rush in. Back in
the trunk, you'll find a plaid vinyl mat, a full spare on a wire
wheel, a factory jack, logo license plate holders, an original
sales brochure, black rubber logo floormats, shop manuals, a car
cover, a rear cover flap that covers the convertible top when down.
This is one great-looking Thunderbird with a fantastic color combo,
three different top choices, a powerful and strong running V-8,
gleaming brightwork, a stylish interior, and an unmistakably iconic
body! If you're looking to capture the look and feel of 1950's
Americana on 4 wheels, this Thunderbird is your answer!
