1968 Cabriolet “Fusca”Convertible Bug
Odometer 64238 Kilometres since engine refurbishment (38,500 miles)
The vehicle was manufactured at the San Bernardo VW Plant near Shop Paulo Brazil in 1968. This Sea Foam Green 1300 CC convertible bug (Fusca) was restored in 2011 by “Trocar Antigos”of Brazil, with a full body restoration and Trocar “convertible conversion to include underbody reinforcement, and a rebuild of the convertible top with a Trocar convertible frame system. The bug was purchased in 2021 from a third party vendor and re-restored with over 150 additional man-hours of additional restoration time in our Brazilian Reborn Customs and Classics shop before export to the USA. The sportier “1300” 4600 RPM 50 HP single-port 1285cc power plant makes for quicker acceleration and better gas mileage.
Significant restoration work included body paint detailing and metal trim restorations, a total body paint de-oxidization, and numerous mechanical upgrades and body rust removal.Vehicle upgrades include front disc brakes, gas tank cleaning, as well as a complete engine dis-assemble and cleaning and compression testing.. Included in the the engine cleaning was the addition of an electronic ignition system, new engine gaskets, spark plugs, entire carburetor overhaul, engine surfaces cleaning, and new engine paint with a polished steel engine bay heat shielding. The muffler system was re-sprayed with metallic paint and the entire underbody was re-painted with black heavy undercoating for waterproofing. We removed water damaged interior side paneling, previously damaged by rain, and added new fiber board covered with the restored original vinyl. Compete interior seat and carpet cleaning.
List of additional upgrades and replacements are as follows:
New wheel nuts ,wheel bearing kits, new brake fluid, restored headlights and blinkers, new VW metal emblem and 1300 emblem, exterior door and body panel seams adjusted to correct gapping tolerances, corrected rear wheel cambers, new battery and battery cut-off, a new JVC Bluetooth radio and JBl speakers, cleaned and brushed interior carpet, cleaned cabriolet hood cover, new emergency lights and blinker control system, new inside door handles, convertible hood roof repair, a Wolfsburg medallion replacement, detailed rust removal and new primer paint in water collection areas, a new adjustable front end suspension for variable stance, new interior rubber matts, a new license plate holder, rubber restoration on all windows and door moulding, greased wheel bearings, An electrical system assessment with wiring corrections, new gasoline hoses, new distributer and coil, new gas and oil filters, new steering bushings, all shocks tested and properly adjusted.
The vehicle has the original chrome bumpers, original steering wheel and Brazilian steering wheel badge, re-furbished carpeted front trunk and wheel storage area, upgraded low profile custom 17” tires and rims. A hand applied ceramic coat finish was completed in 2022. Approximately 560 additional miles have been driven since import to USA in 2021 to test brake the new disc brake system and confirm handling and reliability on short and longer trips. The car has won a “Best Workmanship” award at 2022 Raleigh Eurofest.
The speedometer is green backlit, all lights are functional, new sets of keys with new door locks. The original 15” tires and rims are included in the sale to return the car to a more classic look if desired.
Original engine and chassis numbers were verified prior to export with Brazilian DETRAN ( DMV) and the car has a clean South Carolina title and registration with the original Brazilian VIN number. The vehicle comes with a high quality all weather car cover. Car jack kit, extra windshield wipers and metal wiper stems included with purchase.
Rear passenger side windows are removable due to Trocar’s unique hood design system.
This Fusca was wrapped and container protected before export to the U.S. in 2021
