Vehicle Description
2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
The Ford Explorer Sport Trac, (also shortened to Ford Sport Trac),
is a pickup truck that was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor
Company for the North American market. The first midsize pickup
truck produced by Ford, the Sport Trac was marketed from the 2001
to the 2010 model years skipping the 2006 model year. Sized between
the Ranger, (whose crew cab variants were sold outside of North
America), and the F-150, the Sport Trac largely competed against
crew-cab variants of the midsize Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon,
Dodge Dakota, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.
For consignment, a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. This is a 1 owner
truck and includes nearly every option you can get these trucks. It
has been well used and it shows plenty of scratches, some
beginnings of rust on the hood, a damaged rear bumper on the
passengers side, and underlying invasive rust showing on various
areas of the frame. The interior is leather but also shows wear
with some cracking of the leather near the seams, and worn surfaces
on the center console lid.
Exterior
An aero neoprene chrome less black bumper front end has a single
angled headlight on either corner bump out hefty looking fenders
frame 16-inch alloy wheels that all have been curbed in various
areas on the edges. A shorter hood for this midsize, 4 doors tinted
glass and a short vinyl covered bed smoke up the panels which are
bathed in black paint and as mentioned in the intro there are
several areas of numerous faults, see the photos. Tubular side
steps are on to help get inside and a roof rack is on top. The
vinyl bed covering lifts up from the front or back and the tailgate
goes down for access to the plastic lined bed. The back bumper has
some chip off of paint along with the large cut in its corner
edge.
Interior
Inside padded leather power high backs have Dark Flint smooth edges
and bolsters and Medium Pebble inserts with some slight wide tuck
and roll. These seats are showing some wear on them with cracking
and the underlying padding showing through on the edges. The
console keeps with the two tone theme sporting a darker lid and
lighter molded sides that have some cup holders and an open storage
bin next to the dash center. Tan carpeting covers the floors. In
back is another two tone bench with a center smaller jump seat also
using the darker and lighter leather. This bench is less used and
looks good. Above is a sunroof and a tan headliner. A curvaceous
design makes up the dash top and inserts for the instrument cluster
and center panel controls. The darker center panel where the temp
knobs and AM/FM/Multi CD radio are housed is showing some wear off
of the plastic finish. White faced gauges cluster within the
semicircular deep inset in front of the driver.
Drivetrain
A pop of the hood and we're off! Here resides a 4.0 liter SOHC V6
mill that has EFI and a 5-speed automatic transmission on back,
(5R55E). 3.27 geared axles are on front and rear.
Undercarriage
Some heavy surface rust is noted on various parts of the frame and
axles. Invasive rust is noted in various frame edge and mounting
areas and will need further investigation to evaluate if there are
any structural problems. Power disc brakes are on front and rear,
and independent torsion bars are on the front and leaf springs are
on back.
Drive-Ability
This truck fired right up and drove smoothly. Good cornering,
smooth shifting, and save for the AC blowing warm all was working
on all power options.
A neat midsize design truck with a crew cab for extra passengers.
Leather and a sunroof are on as well as a vinyl covered bed which
is also lined. Some wear and tear on surfaces on the outside and
inside, and you can go regular 2WD or 4WD. Basically anywhere, all
in black.
