Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you today this exquisite
1989 Mercedes Benz 560 SL. This German beauty is a stunning example
of the final year of the legendary R107 series, and it boasts just
29,154 actual miles! Over the past 6 years, this Mercedes has been
meticulously restored to a very high level and has also been
upgraded with some European flair. It sits before us today dressed
in a very high-quality respray (done in 2018) of dark gray metallic
paint that looks fantastic. There have been several modifications
made to this car that really make it stand out from the crowd. Both
front and rear bumpers have been upgraded to the European versions,
with more chrome showing on the sides and no obnoxious rubber
bumperettes that were required on US exports. The quad headlights
have been replaced as well, with the more attractive and sleek
single lights on each side. The taillights have also been replaced
with their more appealing European counterparts. Lastly, the third
brake light on the trunk lid has been deleted. Taken as a whole,
these changes make a noticeable improvement to what is already a
gorgeous car. Brightwork is plentiful and in excellent condition
with some pieces having been replaced with new ones (evidenced by
restoration receipts). The removable hardtop is in like-new
condition and there is a stand and cover for it in the trunk. This
SL rolls down the road on stock aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in
Michelin Premier tires. Under the hood, you'll find a totally stock
engine bay with the original 5.6 liter V-8 at its center. The 227hp
V-8 is mated up to a 4-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel
drive. Stopping power comes from 4-wheel power disc brakes with
ABS. The undercarriage of this Benz is clean as a pin, with many of
the suspension components having been repainted black when the
restoration work was done. Open the driver's door to reveal an
elegant tan interior illuminated by working courtesy lights. The
door panels are in excellent condition and the driver has an
internal toggle for the side mirror. The front bucket seats are
dressed in leather and look like new. In the rear, a previous owner
installed a very high-quality jump seat complete with seatbelts.
Between the front seats is a center console that boasts all-new
burled wood inserts as well as a custom wood shift lever, power
window controls, and a power mirror adjuster for the passenger
side. There is also a specially made wooden box that fits in the
console under the fold-down armrest. Beautiful burled wood travels
from the console up onto the center dash where you'll find an
ashtray hidden behind a panel with a wood handle. Moving upward
you'll find the climate control system which offers cold A/C (134A
upgraded) and hot heat, then a Becker Grand Prix AM/FM/Cassette
stereo. There are also switches for the power antenna, rear
defrost, and map light, as well as a thermometer. In the glovebox
is the original owner's manual and tools for removing the hardtop.
The top of the dash is a crack-free black vinyl that is a nice
contrast to the tan and woodgrain trim beneath. Ahead of the driver
is a leather-wrapped steering wheel with an airbag and Mercedes
logo. Also on the column are controls for the 3-speed wipers and
cruise control. The gauge cluster offers a 160mph speedometer,
tachometer with 6K redline, a working clock, and gauges for fuel,
temp, and oil. The carpet throughout the interior was replaced
during the refresh and is in excellent condition. Keeping the
carpet nice are carpeted logo floormats. Back in the carpeted trunk
is the factory first aid kit and a car cover (in addition to the
aforementioned top stand and cover). Also in the trunk is a folder
of receipts for work dating back to 2017. In 2018, roughly $50K was
invested into the car! When the car was purchased in 2021, it was
taken to Crown Eurocars Dublin here in Columbus, Ohio where it
underwent another $10K of work including (but not limited to) a new
rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, power steering pump coupling,
parking brake cable, tire rotation alignment, and full service of
the following: oil filter, brakes, cooling system, transmission,
rear differential, plugs, fuel filter, and air filter. Since this
service, only 47 miles have been put on the car! This Mercedes is
ready to hop in, turn the key, and cruise down the road with
confidence. 560 SLs with mileage this low are hard to find, let
alone one with all of the highly desirable European elements! If
you're looking for a truly special R107 Mercedes then this one will
stop you in your tracks!
