Vehicle Description
2005 Pontiac GTO Coupe
Initially, the GTO was powered by GM's LS1 V8 making 350hp. For
2005, Pontiac slid the LS2 6.0-liter V8 under the hood, good for
400 hp. Blasting from zero to 60 in less than 5.5 seconds and
blitzing the quarter-mile in under 14 ticks means a 2005 Pontiac
GTO will simply embarrass nearly any old Goat you could name.
Certainly not an old goat in this 2005 GTO from Pontiac. Now with
400hp, a homologation of Holden and European style looks, the dyed
in the wool GTO fans may not like the new aero look but will relish
the performance which the classics cannot even come close to. Only
a 3-year run for this car, and it is now an instant classic. Its
only fault with the public back in the day was the Holden/Euro
styling which has nary a hint of retro on it. This car come with
some performance upgrades as well as 39,414 title verified actual
miles.
Note: This vehicle is sold with a Delaware reconstructed salvage
branding on the title. Please check with your country, state,
provincial, county or local DMV to verify proper titling
procedure.
Exterior
This styling means that each unit from every company essentially
takes on the same traits, and this ubiquitous example plays along
exactly with the game. With no reference to the past conquests,
integrated headlights, front bumper and lower fog lights are
aerodynamically inserted and smoothed over. A slight reference to
Pontiac in form is the split front drilled hole grille in black
with the arrowhead badge. A hood scoop has been carved into the
hood and sports dual openings. All panels are bathed in
Quicksilver, and it's, well, silver! A flared rocker panel moves
rearward to a greenhouse long sloping tinted rear glass that ends
with a curvaceous rear spoiler. More integrated blacked out
taillights rear bumper and finally a black custom rear valance
flanked by dual exhaust. 19-inch Quad wheels are wrapped with front
245/35ZR19 rubber and on back larger 275/30ZR19's.
Interior
Fashioned from black curved molded vinyl and a strip of suede, the
door panels are as aerodynamic as the exterior. High back extra
bolster support buckets in black leather have an embroidered GTO in
their uppers. These seats are power adjustable and in back is a 2
plus 2 bench setup stretching from B pillar to B pillar. In the
center is a curved molded console that makes its way gracefully
upward and melting into the dash. On its way is a Blaupunkt 6-disc
AM/FM/CD radio, green screen readout for information and fan and
temperature knobs. The dash borrows styling directly from Porsche
with the overlapping red background circle gauges, and more green
readouts, under a curved dash top visor. Black carpet for the
floors and more molded panels covered with slightly fuzzy charcoal
gray material for the headliner.
Drivetrain
Stuffed under the curved dual vented hood is a living breathing 6.0
liters of V8 LS2 engine. It has a Texas Speed camshaft with 629i,
615e lift, and 235i,240e duration and a K&N cold air intake.
EFI feeds it, and a T56 6-speed manual transmission with a rear
axle with 4.11 gearing finishes up the drivetrain. Headers and a
Spintech muffler system are on and it has QTP electric cutouts.
Undercarriage
Up on the lift some slight surface rust but all structurally sound
with the unibody construction. All independent suspension, and all
power disc brakes all around for this car. Adjustable coilovers are
in front, and lowering springs are in back. Noted, there is still a
noticeable bend in the left front unibody rail near the radiator
support (see photos 68 and 69).
Drive-Ability
As expected, this car fired right up, and performed like a 400+hp
car should on the test track. Seat pushing acceleration, rail like
handling, and quick stopping were the norm. All functions were
performing as they should, and it is a smooth highway cruiser with
low noise factor.
A nice example of the new version of the GTO even though someone
would have to tell me it's a GTO if the badges were not there.
Holden/Euro styling has taken over, and now we have an aero car
with a big mill. Which in the entire picture is not too bad!
