Vehicle Description
1987 Pontiac Fiero GT
From the Spanish word the "fierce one," Fiero was introduced to the
American market in 1984 as a gas saving alternative to the
Corvette. A mid-engine 2 seated sports car that had all the initial
problems sorted out by the last year of offering it to the public
in 1988. The suspension had been upgraded, and the GT version came
as a 6 cylinder 2.8 liter with a Muncie/Getrag 5-speed
transmission, making the car finally what the designers wanted it
to be, a somewhat powerful, good handling mid engined car, that got
good gas mileage.
On consignment a truly original 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT with the
odometer showing a 14,154 title verified actual original miles.
Only new hoses have been changed since the car's birth, and save
for a few gauges all is working perfectly. A garage kept,
diligently maintained, very clean and purchased from a Fiero
collector, this car is an original.
Exterior
A clean car with good gaps, straight panels, and nice Dark Red
Metallic paint. This GT was the first year for the fastback design
and was only available on the GT model. In front, the new aero nose
has lost the black bumper pads and has a smoother color coordinated
look bathed is in silver for the bottom edge. This wraps around the
entire car. The drivers compartment sports a steeply raked
windscreen and a rounded roofline. A wide black shiny B pillar
begins the inception of some deep red painted flying buttress
pillars that slope downward to the rear spoiler. These flank the
vented engine bay situated in mid car. For the rear, a spoiler at
the back end to the open fastback posts stretches the width of the
car. The brake lighting and a central black plastic panel stretches
the width as well just above the neoprene bumper. This also sports
the silver painted bottom striping and dual exhausts on the bottom.
15-inch lace mesh mag wheels are all around, and the tires appear
almost new even though they are from 2007.
Interior
A textured gray on gray broadcloth wraps the 2 high back bucket
seats in the passenger compartment with both having a manual
reclining mechanism. A small black stripe and dark gray piping are
also noted in these chairs. A gray carpet, and gray dash and
console, as well as gray door panels finish off the interior nicely
and add a nice contrast to the exterior red. The instrument cluster
is in a brushed faux aluminum panel. A volt meter, and an oil
pressure gauge sit atop the standard climate control center dash
area. A switch for stereo boost, as well as interior lighting, and
a "formula" option 120mph speedometer make up the instrumentation
cluster behind the leather wrapped Fiero steering wheel. All
surfaces are in very good condition, and show little to no wear.
Power windows, power brakes and power mirrors have been installed
as options on this vehicle.
Drivetrain
A 2.8 liter 6-cylinder fed by EFI with a 5-speed Muncie/Getrag
manual transmission attached provides 135hp and can push this car
down the road very quickly. This is thanks to the 3.61 geared final
drive turning the rear tires.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust and some scratching due to low clearance
scraping are seen, otherwise the underside is unremarkable. Disc
brakes are seen on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
All in factory condition the car fired right up and ran like a
champ. The braking was solid and handling was rail like. The
tachometer did not register RPMs, the AC did not work and the
transmission was difficult to shift into 1st and 2nd gear. Also the
fuel gauge and oil pressure gauges do not work.
A very low original mile example, good paint and nice interior. A
few annoying non working functions but mechanically it seemed very
sound. Grab it up and you can be the fierce one!
