1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft 418-Powered Racing Roadster 5-Speed
This Backdraft Racing Shelby Cobra replica was built in 2004 by
TR-Tec of Durban, South Africa, and is powered by a Windsor V8 and
a Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission. The Windsor V8 has
reportedly been stroked to 418ci and is fitted with an Edelbrock
Air-Gap intake, a Holley 760 CFM carburetor, and ceramic-coated
headers with side-exit exhaust.
The fiberglass bodywork is finished in gray with silver stripes
over gray leather upholstery. Polished 17" Halibrand-style wheels
wear faux knock-off spinners and are mounted with Nitto NT555 G2
tires sized 245/45 up front and 315/35 out back. Braking is handled
via discs at all four corners. The car rides on four-wheel
independent suspension.
The cabin houses bucket seats trimmed in gray leather along with a
color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Dark gray carpets line
the floors and are protected by Backdraft-branded mats. The
wood-rimmed steering wheel wears a Cobra-branded center cap and
fronts AutoMeter instrumentation consisting of an 8k-rpm
tachometer, a reverse-sweep 180-mph speedometer, and auxiliary
displays. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 11k miles.
Appointments include multi-point harnesses, a chrome fire
extinguisher mounted between the seats, and toggle switches for
vehicle functions. Exterior details include a hood scoop, front
fender vents, side-exit exhaust pipes, glass wing windows,
quick-jack points, and a removable tonneau cover.
The identification tag notes assembly by TR-Tec in South Africa.
The title is branded "Replica" and lists the car as a 1965
Roadster.
