Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet Laguna S3 Coupe
In 1974 the Laguna was renamed the Laguna type S3 and was offered
only as a Colonnade coupe. Standard equipment included a console,
vinyl roof, opera type vertical rear quarter windows, body side
striping and Laguna S3 badging. Only 15,792 examples were produced
this year. Call it a gentleman's version of the Nascar racer that
was tearing up the tracks of the day.
For consignment a time capsule of you will in the form of a 1974
Laguna S3 Coupe. This fine example of mid 70's design and
engineering comes through our door with a mere 29,865 original
miles, the build sheet and associateddealership paperwork. In sports
Antique White paint and opera B pillar vertical window, with some
dark red striping for the lowers, All in excellent condition and
ready to drive off to the EPA emission controlled sunset.
Exterior
Simple square and rectangle design takes over the front quarters
and grille. An Antique White painted steel bumper below with the
dark red stripe on its bottom has a single vertical white rubber
padded bumper protector on either side. The striping wraps around
the car's entire bottom. Antique White paint bathes the entire
uppers and roofline. Trimmings are used sparingly, letting the
striping do the highlighting and saving overall costs. A long door
on either side has well minded goes and are nice and straight. The
red paint is showing lots of cracking and crazing throughout as
well as chip offs on the bottom end. The vertical opera glass is on
the B pillar as the roofline becomes the rear glass; it has a long
gently sloping descent to the trunk. Here the lid curved down and
has a notch in each side to use the rectangular tail lights and
rear panel of the car. Below a shiny bumper is on and it has a
white rubber insert with a dark red stripe in its center to
continue the striping around the entire car unbroken. 15-inch deep
dish chrome trimmed rally wheels are all around and looking just
great with nearly new white stripe radials.
Interior
As we slide past black vinyl door panels we feast our eyes on a
front split back bench and all rear bench. These chairs are covered
in a black and white herringbone tweed and it looking good. The
front seats have a small low solid black vinyl headrest for the
passengers. Black carpeting covers the floors. For the dash, more
square and rectangle design with an interplay of wood applique and
black padded vinyl. Round gauges are in for the driver and more
rounds are on the black edges of the dash front. AC vents, climate
sliders and an AM radio are seeing the center. The factory wheel
fronts the dash and above is a tight black perforated headliner.
Classy.
Drivetrain
A flip of the hood and we see a nicely detailed shiny engine bay.
It has a 350ci V8 from the factory, and a single 2-barrel
carburetor on top. A numbers matching TH350 3-speed automatic is on
back and for the axle it is a 10 bolt, 2.73 ratio. Stock style dual
exhaust is present.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust on the frame and usual suspects, but otherwise
solid and sound. New mufflers and tailpipes are seen. Also I note
front independent coil springs and back 4 link with coil springs.
Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums in back.
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside and breathed in the mid 70's originality of this
low mileage example. The car fired right up, and on the test track
where it drove nicely. It's not a rocket ship but not meant to be,
just a cruiser. The AC blows warm, and the wipers do not work, all
else was fine.
A preserved piece of history with low original miles, very nice
paint, original interior, and a fine running engine. Here for the
taking a low hanging fruit time piece with only 15,792 made and
many fewer surviving. Come and get it!
