Vehicle Description
Offering a blacked-out grille, custom interior, "trick wheels",
distinctive and bright "rainbow" pinstriping, Ford's Free Wheeling
trucks were a sleek series of special edition, cosmetically
enhanced vehicles with lots of '70s style. Offered in a limited run
from 1977-1981, these vehicles are now a rare find that often catch
the attention of classic truck enthusiasts. This spectacular 1978
Ford F-100 Free Wheelin' short bed truck is in exceptional
condition with believed only 58,025 on the odometer.
The truck is highly original and is believed to be wearing the same
yellow paint that was applied at the factory. The special factory
graduated light to dark horizontal graphics stand out against the
paint color, making this a very good-looking truck. 1978 was the
first year that Ford offered square headlights on their
higher-level series of F-100s, making them a favorite with
collectors today.
The upholstery and colors were upgraded from the standard models as
well. Most noticeable is the orange dash trim and red-orange piping
on the seats. The seats are a unique light grey color with black
accenting. The door pockets are in matching grey material with the
orange accent piping as well. Options on this truck include a tilt
steering column and factory air conditioning. The interior is
original and in excellent condition and all stock with the
exception of an upgraded Kenwood stereo.
Powering this rare truck is Ford's sturdy 400 cubic inch V-8 mated
to a rugged C-6 automatic transmission. Under the hood is
unrestored and original other than a Ford Racing air cleaner. This
F-100 is equipped with factory front disc brakes and runs and
drives great, rolling on 15-inch polished aluminum bullet hole
wheels.
