Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this
nicely redone1955 Ford Country Squire. Sadly, the glory days of the
Woodies were long gone, until now! The quirky looks of these
station wagons with wood body panels were all the craze back in the
1930s, quickly becoming a symbol of suburban America and the
families that lived there. The Country Squire was produced by Ford
from 1950 to 1991 as its top of the line station wagon. Because of
the long life of the nameplate, the Squire went through several
shifts in design, with the 1950's Woody's being the most desired.
Ford's 272 CID "Y-block" (ECG-9425-B casting code) V-8 linked to a
3-speed automatic transmission was standard equipment in the
Country Squire, making for a smooth powerplant with plenty of power
for the highway. The bright red and white interior are a gorgeous
contrast to the Snowshoe white bodywork and makes the handsome
wagon feel very upscale. Three rows of seating are present,
including a center-row section that folds down to grant access to
the forward-facing rear bench. The large two-spoke steering wheel
fronts a 120mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant
temperature. Nicely finished and ready to enjoy, this is the
ultimate vintage family hauler!
