Motorcar is pleased to offer this 1964 Volvo PV544 Sport. This is a
single-owner car that spent its entire life in California before
coming to Georgia two years ago (it was never registered or titled
here so it's still being sold on its California title). Finished in
Cascade White over red interior, this Volvo saw one repaint in the
original color about 20 years ago over a very straight and
rust-free body. There is one patched area in the floor behind the
driver's seat but the floors and rockers are otherwise in very good
original condition. Mileage, at 82,000, is believed original.
Factory steel wheels with hubcaps are wearing Goodyear Corsa GT
radials with with 2020 date codes.
The interior presents nicely with seat upholstery, door panels,
door sills, headliner and floor coverings all in excellent
condition. Original steering wheel has an attractive leather wrap.
Dash is crack free and all gauges, including the cool ribbon-style
speedometer, are working. Horn, wipers, lights, radio, etc. are all
fully functional as well. Volvo, always a pioneer when it comes to
driver and passenger safety, equipped this car from the factory
with three-point seat belts for the front occupants, and they are
still working as designed.
Under the hood is a 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine; the Sport
received a four-speed manual transmission and an upgrade to twin
carbs, good for an extra few horsepower over the regular PV544.
This Volvo starts easily and runs great, and it offers a
surprisingly engaging driving experience - it feels more
substantial and roomy than a Volkswagen Beetle, yet it's more
nimble than the big American sedans from the era. The original
generator was replaced with an alternator, but the car is otherwise
completely stock.
Note the California title issued in 1987 lists V64414108 as the VIN
(the VIN on both the data plate and stamped into the body itself is
414108 - it's not uncommon to see a make and year designation added
to such a short VIN). The original California black plate and
decades of service records are included with the sale. For more
