Vehicle Description
This 1959 Lincoln Mark IV Continental Convertible is an elegant
luxury convertible that comes loaded with options! The Lincoln
Continental nameplate made its initial debut back in 1940 and it
was modeled after the custom-built 1939 Convertible Coupe driven by
the President of Lincoln at the time, Edsel Ford. In the couple
years that followed and for a few years following World War II, the
Continental was one of Lincoln's top-of-the-line models. Then
suddenly, in 1949, the Continental was no more, replaced by the
Cosmopolitan. A few years after that, the Ford Motor Company sought
to introduce a new and even more premium brand above Lincoln. The
resulting brand was Continental and Continental's first (and only)
automobile was the Mark II, which was sold during the 1956 and 1957
model years. Then in 1958, the Continental was absorbed back into
Lincoln as a new model with a brand new look. From nose to tail,
the '58 Continental Mark III looked like a completely different car
from the Mark II. Some of the highlights included a new slanted,
dual headlight design, a brand new grille, an entirely new body,
interior layout, and the availability of a powered
retractable-style soft convertible top. In 1959, the new Mark IV
Continental got a new name, reversing the Mark with roman numeral
and Continental name, and, while it retained a similar silhouette
of the Mark III, it did receive some modest updates. Up front the
grille was refined to include a new "criss-cross" pattern. Down the
sides, the side-spear was removed leading to cleaner side profile.
In the rear, the taillight design was upgraded to include four
taillights. In total, a mere 2,195 Mark IV Continental Convertibles
were produced which makes this particular example quite a rare
piece of automotive history. Under the hood on this '59 Lincoln
Convertible is a 430 Cubic Inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel
carburetor that together were said to have created a whopping 350
horsepower when new. This Lincoln's 430 V8 is mated to an automatic
transmission which makes this 50s cruiser an easy car for just
about anybody to drive. Exhaust exits the Lincoln motor via a dual
exhaust setup that creates a wonderful throaty sound out of the
rear. Because the Continental was Lincoln's top of the line model,
they came loaded with options. With power steering, manuvering this
5,000+ pound convertible in and out of a tight parking space at the
local car show or ice cream parlor is a total breeze, easily
accomplished with a single hand. Power brakes are another welcome
feature on any massive 50s cruiser since it makes bringing this
Mark IV Continental to a complete stop much easier. Riding on a set
of wide whitewall tires paired with Turbine-style full wheel
covers, this '59 Lincoln has an outstanding look parked at the
local car show and cruising down the road. The black vinyl power
convertible top is in wonderful condition and the power top and
related mechanisms all operate smoothly, all with the simple push
of a button. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this
luxurious Lincoln looks great and further elevates the elegance of
this 50s cruiser. The body of this '59 Mark IV has been correctly
refinished in Presidential Black, completing the exterior look of
the car. The interior of this 1959 Lincoln Mark IV Continental
Convertible is gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have been
reupholstered in a two-tone color scheme of White and Black vinyl.
Like the drivetrain, the interior also comes absolutely loaded with
options! All five power windows, including the glass rear window,
go up and down with the simple flick of a switch and they can all
be disabled with the child safety lock. Anyone should be able to
reach the pedals since the front seat is 4-way power adjustable.
This 1959 Lincoln Continental also comes equipped with adjustable
chrome outside mirrors and auto-dimming headlights. This Mark IV
Continental also came equipped from the factory with air
conditioning. The upholstered door panels, black carpeting, padded
dash, and steering wheel are all in great shape and appear to
remain in their stock configuration. The instrument cluster comes
outfitted with a 120 MPH speedometer, ammeter, temperature gauge,
fuel gauge, Travel Tuner AM radio, clock, and heater/defroster/air
conditioning controls. An optional factory FM radio is mounted
under the dash as well. Whether you're buying your first classic
car or you're adding to your existing collection, this 1959 Lincoln
Mark IV Continental Convertible would make an excellent choice.
