Details
This 1981 BMW M1 is one of just 399 road-legal examples and 1 of only 3 in the special order color of Polaris Silver. This rare 1980s supercar is powered by a mid-rear mounted M88/1 3.5 liter inline six-cylinder engine fed by the Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection system. The power unit sends drive through a ZF five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels and is managed by a limited-slip differential. The fiberglass Polaris Silver exterior was restored in 2014 and compliments the black and gray, leather and cloth combination upholstery. Additional mechanical features include six individual throttle bodies, double wishbone suspension, and Campagnolo alloy wheels. Amenities include air conditioning and power windows. The odometer shows just 6,046 km, and the car has spent time in France, Japan, and Belgium. It now resides with its current owner in Miami, Florida.
This well-documented low-mileage M1 has been inspected and photographed by a third party. The photos attest to a smooth and attractive finish from the 2014 paint restoration. The front emblem on the hood and a minor scuff on the left front are the only blemishes found by the inspector. Both are pictured in the inspection report. The interior also shows well; the upholstery looks clean, and the black leather is supple and without tears. The dash is in good condition and free of cracks. The air conditioning is not fully functional and will need service. In 2007, the roof moldings and distributor were replaced. The car received additional service in 2008 and 2010 from BMW when they replaced the brakes. In 2013, the car was fitted with a new clutch. The car has been certified by BMW and comes with the original luggage, tool kit, manuals, and promotional materials.
This BMW M1 is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Miami, Florida.

About the model
The BMW M1 was introduced in 1978. The first BMW model to be mid-engined, the M1 had a troubled birth but has become an iconic BMW car. The M1 was created to be a racing car, and the road-going version was necessary for homologation. BMW had hired Lamborghini to produce the cars, but numerous problems along the way forced BMW to take over the project altogether. Due to this production problem, the M1 is the first car entirely developed by BMW Motorsport. Powered by BMW's M88/1 straight-six engine, the M1 achieved relative success on the racetrack. A total of 453 examples of the M1 were built, with 399 examples being built for the road and 54 examples for motorsport.
