Radically different from anything on the road during its two year
production 1963-1964. Since then, there have been attempts to
revive the brand including in 1987 with the Avanti II. Same radical
design but on a 1987 Monte Carlo chassis and driveline. Service it
anywhere you would take a Chevy. A fantastic survivor with original
paint and only 31,000 actual miles. It is obvious the car was
always very well cared for. They only produced 166 Avanti's in
1987, and this is 1 of only 91 Sport Coupes for that year.
We acquired this from a long time customer of ours who deals in
high end vehicles. He has a special love for Avanti's, and this
came from his private collection.
EXTERIOR: Sport coupe body design is a handmade fiberglass body,
with it's original paint. Avanti II bodies were made from
surprisingly high quality material. You'll be surprised how well
the fit and finish is. The doors shut like new, all the gaps are
square and flush. It's very similar to the original Studebaker
Avanti. Most recognized for their grill less front end, and square
headlights. Sitting on American Racing chrome wire wheels that are
15" with Bridgestone tires. The glass is crystal clear, and all the
stainless trim is all original and nice and shiny. Again, very
similar to what an original Avanti would look like aside from the
updated color keyed mirrors and bumpers.
INTERIOR: The interior is in excellent shape. The door panels are
really nice, the carpet and seats as well. Everything was done very
nicely from the factory and looks to be professional grade work.
Key attributes are the woodgrain faced dash with full
instrumentation including a tachometer. AM/FM stereo with cassette.
Loaded with power windows, power mirrors. power locks, and both
seats are power. A polished wood wheel is on a tilt column. The
Avanti shows just over 31,000 original miles on the odometer and
has a clean CARFAX to back that.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Powered by the 305CI GM engine 185HP,
everything's how it would be from the factory. Power steering,
power brakes, air conditioning It's a nice cruiser that's reliable.
All the components were used from the Monte Carlo SS for this.
Everything is clean, well kept, and original.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk is powered by a power release from
inside the cabin. It's a fully carpeted trunk with spare tire and
original jack on mount. Very, very clean for being a survivor, It
doesn't appear anything had ever been stored in it.
UNDERSIDE: Its stock Monte Carlo SS. The undercarriage looks
original and in fantastic shape! Everything is clean, dry and rot
free. Front suspension is independent, the shocks and springs look
great. The power disc brakes up front look great, as well as the
drum in the rear. The rear shocks, springs, and control arms are in
fantastic shape. The original exhaust is in really good shape; it
has a singular resonator that splits off into a dual exhaust with
dual mufflers, and quad tips. Looking up at the motor and trans
they are very clean. The transmission is a 200R-4 overdrive
automatic. The rear axle has 3.73 gears.
This is one of the nicest examples we've come across. If you want
something you'll be noticed in, this just might be a top contender.
Surely wherever you go people will be asking questions. It's not
something you really see on the road ever.
A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am
offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen
are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your
questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a
walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a
particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that
car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the
showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and
you will be given a 1 year membership.
