For Sale: 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Notchback

The Oldsmobile Cutlass is a line of automobiles produced by Oldsmobile between 1961 and 1988, and again briefly in 1997-1999. Over time the Cutlass name accumulated great brand equity, becoming not only Oldsmobile's best-selling model but one of the most popular nameplates in the industry in the 1970s. By the 1980s, Oldsmobile was using the Cutlass as a sub-marque, with numerous vehicle lines bearing the name simultaneously. These included the Cutlass Calais compact, the midsize Cutlass Ciera, the Cutlass Cruiser station wagon, and top of the line midsize Cutlass Supreme.

For consignment, probably the one of the best years prior to the next generation changeover. This sleek sporty and nicely designed version has undergone some refreshing on the exterior as well as a redux on the interior and sports an era correct but not original 350ci Rocket V8 under the hood. Some custom touches were added in along the wayfor driver and passenger convenience and things are looking just fine and dandy like peppermint candy. We give you a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in sexy notchback form, a drivable dream which brings some class to our extensive rooms and overstuffed halls of the Classic Auto Mall.

Exterior
Owned by our consignor the last 15 year and treated to a color change repaint in 2011 from the original Antique Briar to a very alluring Bittersweet we are smack dab in the middle of the best looking cars Oldsmobile had to offer. Attention to detail was paid on this car as the paint is at the deep end of the pool but does present with some inclusions, but you're going to have to look hard to find them. A perfectly aligned split waterfall style grille and dual headlights with a shiny bumper below, which continues the grille opening and houses round signal/running lights is below, leads the way. Shiny trimmings show up all over this car and work to accentuate the forward moving Coke bottle form of this car. These include wheel well trim, rocker trim and window trimmings and are all looking great. Up top a black vinyl roof was installed when the car was painted and is looking like new to this very day. The steel panels are very straight and have well minded gaps and bringing up the rear is a beautiful V formed rear bumper with a series of 2 horizontal rectangle inset tail lights on each side. Like new Cooper Cobra Radial GT raised white letter tires wrap 14-inch Oldsmobile Super Stock 2 wheels which have deep dish rings and body matching centers. "And now we see not just another pretty car."

Interior
Opening one of the doors we are greeted by nice textured Sienna vinyl with embossed stitching and applique panels and a small amount of thin nice chrome accents, window cranks, and Sienna carpeting below. Slipping inside we get behind the original wheel which fronts a very clean and original dash and this presents to us in Sienna and is loaded with plenty of wood applique for the gauge cluster which holds the factory gauges as well as a reproduction factory tachometer. Below and to the right of the cluster is more applique for the heat and AC, and centrally located in the dash is the factory AM radio. Meanwhile, in front of the passenger we see a glove box, all aligned perfectly. Fronting this dash is a recovered Sienna split bench seat which is tuck and roll vinyl with puffy rolls and adjustable headrests. The back has a matching rear bench that appears to never have been sat in and these all float in a sea of uber clean Sienna carpeting. For the front seat passengers convenience a 3 tied black painted wood consolette fills the gap between the hump and dash and holds an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player, a trio of black face gauges and a 12 volt power port. A shout out to the trunk with black carpeted mat and full size spare tire. Sit back and turn on the radio and breathe in the 1970 design you are now surrounded by!

Drivetrain
A pop of the hood which has new insulation on the underside and you will be in 350ci Rocket engine gold painted heaven! This is an era correct but non-original mill as the casting number denotes this engine is from 1973/74. There is a 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor atop and all parts present with a light dusting and patina. Bolted to the back of the mill is a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and lest we forget it has a 10-bolt rear. "The power of intelligent engineering."

Undercarriage
Up in the air we can breathe in the unrestored frame and flooring. This presents in a mix of patina, surface rust and factory red oxide primer along with some undercoating. Even with the slight surface rust all remains intact and structurally solid. Magnaflow muffler equipped dual exhaust is on for the exhale and the car rides on independent coil sprung front suspension, and a 4 link with coil springs in back. Bringing this cruiser to a stop are power front disc brakes and power rear drums.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and ran like a champ on the test track. Smooth shifting and good solid quick stop braking is the norm for this car, as is capable handling and wonderful acceleration. I wanted to take the liberty of having my tenure behind the wheel and my crack decoder and partner in crime was niceenough to oblige my request and frankly I was just as impressed as he was...simply a wonderful driving and fully functional skate here.

What more can I say, other than just a beautiful example from 1971. Beautiful early 70's styling with all the work done making this a turn key cruiser that only needs you to complete the package. A great classic piece of Detroit iron in our Hallowed Halls that remains largely unmolested. Hurry in, this Rocket is sure not to last.
