Ford could do no wrong in the early to mid-1920s as sales of its
Model T soared past the million-dollar mark.
This closed coupe example is a true survivor as most Model Ts were
open roadsters and touring cars and many coupes were converted into
hot rods over the years.
This nicely restored example supports the widely-circulated notion
that Henry Ford decreed that customers could have any color they
wanted so long as it's black. The paint and trim are in overall
excellent condition, the bodywork is straight and solid, the engine
bay is very tidy and the hand crank is present, despite this model
having an ignition switch and upgraded to an electrical started.
This car also has an external front sunvisor, a hinged windshield
and a rear window shade.
This Tin Lizzie rolls on Firestone tires, size 4.50-4.75-21 at
every corner. Each tire is mounted on black artillery-style wooden
wheels.
Under the vee'd hood is Ford's 177 CID four-cylinder engine backed
by its two-speed planetary transmission.
Inside, the contrasting brown bench seat looks fantastic, as does
the black carpet. There is s brown headliner and a four-spoke
steering wheel. The black metal dashboard and inner door panels
with brown interior trim are all in very good order. A
floor-mounted shifter completes the interior.
By the mid- to late 1920s, the taper of the hood was increased and
the rear section at the firewall is about an inch taller and
several inches wider than the previous design. It also blends
smoothly into the cowl. While this is a relatively minor change,
the parts between the third and fourth generations are not
interchangeable. These minor styling changes over the final three
model years hinted at the changes to come on the successor, the
Model A.
Documentation includes books from the Model T Club of America -
Speedometer, Carburetor, Transmission, Front and Rear axles,
Engine, Ruckstell Axle and Electrical System. Other documents
include a Model T wiring diagram of the starter, a reprint of the
owner's manual and a reprint of the Model T Ford Service Guide.
Competition to this Model T in 1925 included Chevrolet's K-Series,
among dozens of other rivals during the 1920s.
