Description:
This 1952 Studebaker Champion Starlight coupe features a wraparound
rear window and is finished in blue over striped tan cloth
upholstery. Power is supplied by a 170ci inline-six paired with a
column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Other features include wheel covers, whitewall tires, chrome
bumpers and trim, a clock, a heater, and an AM radio. The
carburetor was rebuilt in preparation for the sale.
Interior:
The front and rear bench seats are trimmed in corded tan cloth
upholstery. Interior appointments consist of a split-folding front
seat, a heater, integrated rear armrests, and a Studebaker-branded
AM radio. Paint blemishes and a crack are visible on the steering
column, and stains are evident on the door panels and the
headliner. Water stains are also noted in the trunk. The
leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts an analog clock, a 100-mph
speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows
69k miles, true mileage is unknown.
Exterior:
The final model year for the third-generation Champion was 1952,
and this example was repainted blue under previous ownership.
Exterior details include chrome-finished bumpers and trim, dual
side mirrors, a wraparound rear window, vent windows, front fender
vents, rear fender skirts, and a polished exhaust outlet. The
driver's window glass is cracked, a scratch is present on the
driver-side quarter panel, and rust is noted on the window
trim.
Drivetrain:
The 170ci side-valve inline-six was rated at 85 horsepower when
new. A six-volt electrical system is retained, and a starter
solenoid has been added. We rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the
accelerator pump, and changed the oil in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted
three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Blue-painted 15?
steel wheels wear Studebaker-logo covers and are mounted with
Remington Cushion Aire Poly 4 whitewall tires, although the
right-front tire has been replaced with a Firestone Deluxe Champion
whitewall. Braking is provided by four-wheel drums.
