Vehicle Description
2009 Pontiac Solstice Convertible
As we approach our winter solstice, let's take a pause and put
ourselves in the right spot at Stonehenge, wait for the sun to
rise, and let out a deep long Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. A religious
experience, and not necessarily in a spiritual way, and I'm not
talking Stonehenge. I'm talking about the former Pontiac in the
form of the aptly named Solstice. The curvaceous, delicious eye
candy, which takes some of its design cues from the '60's E type
Jags, is a neat little sports car, and was sadly only around for a
solid 4 year run, with only 10 being produced in the 5th year.
For consignment, and not a straight line to be found on it, Pontiac
Solstice. A fairly low mileage, (87,322 title verified miles),
convertible, that turns out to be a thrill to drive, and is in very
good condition. The last year of production and with plenty of
extra added on options at the time of purchase, we have a really
nice package, well aligned if you will!
Exterior
Taking on lines that seem as though they were drawn with only a
compass and french curve in hand, this curvy and aerodynamic design
is bathed in Techno Gray Metallic. We note some slight color
differentiation in the panels which we can chalk up to age fading
as the CarFax reports this car to be accident free. From the
bulbous front Jaguar-esque grille, to the inset headlights, a long
rounded hood, swept back windscreen, and rounded rear with
integrated tail lamp with the rear quarters, this car can slice
through the air like a Ginsu knife through buttah! Right down to
the dual humps created by the rear deck emulating the top curvature
of the headrests that die into the trunk, we are talking classic
Jag racing. Sporty 5 spoke polished Pontiac wheels are bolted on
all 4 corners, a nice black cloth canvas convertible top with a
glass rear window tops off the exterior of this great little sports
car.
Interior
Integrated design is the buzz word here as we swing open the door
you can run your hand all around the door panel, and probably feel
nary a bump, as everything is flush and clean. Here charcoal and
black plastic work together to form the "artwork" of the door
panels. Moving inside to the dash, we see more integrated smooth
curves with reversed rounded off L shaped grey panels which houses
all the gauges buttons radio and gearshift, surrounded by a
charcoal padded background dash top and console. Thin circles for
all the gauges, knobs and vents make for a very user friendly
environment. These curved lines work their way back through the 2
black and gray colored cloth buckets. In high back form, these
buckets back up to a dual eyebrow rear cowl at the cockpit end of
the trunk deck if you will. Looking inside the trunk is a nicely
covered but very dusty felt material trunk lining that protects the
top very nicely and snugly, when it is in the down position.
Drivetrain
A clean 2.4 Liter 4-cylinder fuel injected engine, is backed by a
5-speed automatic 5L40E transmission, and certainly no problems
here. 3.90 is the final drive and it puts out 177 horses
Undercarriage
Wrapped in its aero package seamless unibody design, no rust or
problems noted. Very clean, with power disc brakes in front and
back. Independent SLA is all mourned for the rail-like turning and
ride, and its looking garage kept all the way.
Drive-Ability
Like slipping into a new slippery slipper, this car is ready to go
quickly and literally. On the test track it performed like new,
great handling, smooth endless acceleration, and quick stopping.
All in working 87,322 original mile form.
We have in our halls a neat little sports car, -sans turbo version,
but very clean, very low mileage for the age, and certainly a very
well-maintained car. From a company no longer with us, but their
legacy lives on in this cool little Solstice. Stonehenge here we
come! Hmmmmmmmmmm. YIKES!
