Vehicle Description
The pickup truck market was taking off in 1999 with car buyers
trading in their sedate sedans for pickup trucks that sent a more
manly message. Ford had seen success with the first generation
Lightning and went all in with the second generation. No longer
just a dressed-up F-150, this new Lightning was a full-bore muscle
truck. Starting with the biggest engine offered in the F150, Ford's
venerable 5.4L V8, the folks at SVT added forged connecting rods, a
forged crankshaft, and topped it all off with an Eaton supercharger
blowing 8lbs. of boost through an intercooler and revamped
high-capacity intake manifold. All these efforts added 100
horsepower for a total of 360 horsepower and a tire shredding 440lb
ft of torque. To handle all this prodigious power, SVT added in the
4-speed automatic from the diesel engine truck and a heavy-duty
rear axle with 3.55:1 rear gears and limited slip. And because the
engineers at SVT aren't just about going fast in a straight line,
they added in HD gas charged shocks, a 31mm front sway bar, a 23mm
sway bar out back, and a five pack of leaf springs that keep the
rear axle from hopping under acceleration. For brakes, the Ford
corporate parts bin was raided and out came the four-wheel disc
setup from the F250 along with ABS to make for short straight
stops. All these changes produced a short bed pickup truck that in
99' could outrun most performance cars on the road while hauling
home all the performance parts you got from Harry down at The
Racer's Edge for your Race Wars build. Got to keep Hector and his
three Civics with Spoon engines in check, right? The 99' Lightning
pictured here for sale is a pristine example that has been driven
sparingly and lovingly garaged and cared for. Modifications have
been kept to a tasteful minimum with Stainless Works Headers and
exhaust, carbon fiber driveshaft, a lowered stance, billet grille,
and gorgeous 18 period Boyd wheels. The exterior has received a
fresh ceramic coating and shines with a depth of gloss only shared
with an ink well, while the underside has been dry ice cleaned and
looks fresh as day 1 new, if not better. Inside the gray cloth
buckets are like new, and a Kenwood touch screen stereo with JL
audio speakers give the sound system a kick in the pants. This
Lightning is a great truck to show, drive, and enjoy daily. It can
truly do it all and in style. Contact Brian at 352-307-1968 and
