For Sale: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

The "Crate 57"! This is an entirely new car built from scratch. It was commissioned by MotorTrend for the 2017 Street Rodder Road Tour. They hired Woody's Hot Rodz which is known for high end Tri-Five builds from scratch. New metal, Roadster Shop chassis, GM plug and play motor...literally it is all new! There are literally hundreds of pictures on MotorTrend's website from the beginning when the car was a pile of new parts still in boxes to the build process and the finished product was treated to some very cool professional pics.

EXTERIOR: Licensed by GM Woody'z is an authorized provider of new body panels. This 57 is literally all new metal, so obviously no rust or damage repairs. The fit and straightness is awesome. It was covered in PPG Metallic Nickle then it was given some fire with a base coat of Yella, a mixture of Orange Pearl and Oh So Sexy Red. It was given the ultimate gloss with urethane clear. Then the front end was protected with XPEL protection film. It's rolling on American Legend Racers series wheels that are 18 x 9 in the rear and 18 x 7 in the front. They are wrapped in Falcon rubber high-performance tires. The smoked glass looks crystal clear, but it actually isn't glass at all. It's dot approved acrylic from A.M. Hot Rod Glass. The convertible top is a Hartz Stay-fast canvas top that matches the red interior. All new chrome, trim, weathrstrips etc. It has a one piece smooth front bumper and a custom grill. Sherm's Custom Plating chromed the stainless windshield trim. Turn signals are in the side mirrors.

Interior: The Interior is mesmerizing! Completely lined with Dynamat to insulate and silence the passenger compartment. It was then sent to Pete Higgins Showcar Interiors for a full custom interior. Everything looks like new still. The whole interior was upholstered in Red Conneaut Corp Catalina II leather. It is a combination of ProCar by Scat bucket seats, custom fabricated rear bucket seats, door panels, and full-length center console. The dash was painted in Pull Me Over Red and fitted with Dakota digital gauges. Creature comforts include a custom Autosound system and climate control package from Vintage Air. Continuing the bright red theme is the same color Daytona weave carpet. It has a Lokar shifter that looks like a 4-speed, SPW power windows, and Flaming River waterfall steering wheel. Sherms custom plating chrome, and stainless steel trim pieces are made up throughout the interior. A retro stereo with auxillary plug supplies the tunes. It has several details like lights under the armrests that shine on the ground when the doors are open. It has a chrome e-brake, 12 volt receptacles, billet pedals and even hidden cupholders.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is show quality as well. It boasts a Chevrolet ZZ6 crate motor that combines plenty of power reliability and efficiency. It is a 350 making an impressive 405 hp and 406 lbs of torque. This one was ordered complete from pan to intake and even all the front end components: a/c, alternater, power steering brackets etc. It has aluminum heads and intake and is topped off with state-of-the-art FAST EZ fuel injection. A set of Doug's headers flank each side. It is dressed in a matched set of cast aluminum air cleaner and valve covers. Every component was new: radiator, electric fan, Wilwood master cylinder, hinges, etc.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid has been painted smooth and glossy, as well as the jambs. New weatherstripping was used. The entire trunk has been Dyna matted as well. Its boxed and upholstered with some chrome accents. Carpeted floor. The battery has been relocated and mounted nicely in the trunk as well.

UNDERSIDE: No expense spared body of frame restoration. To begin with, this Bel Air is sitting on a Roadster Shop SPEC series chassis. It comes in at a cost of $13,000 and is one of the best in the game fitted with power rack and pinion steering, tubular control arms, large sway bar, and spindles. It rides well on the AFCO adjustable damper coil over shocks front and rear. It's been upgraded with power disc brakes on all four corners with massive Wilwood calipers and drilled/slotted rotors, 6 piston calipers in front. The fuel tank and lines are shiny and new. The LS engine rumbles out of a custom dual exhaust consisting of H pipe into Flowmaster mufflers with chrome tips out the rear. Looking up at the motor and trans everything is fresh. It's powered by a Hughes Performance 4L60 overdrive transmission with an aluminum pan and remote cooler. Roadster Shop 9 inch rear end with 31 spline axles. All new Golden Star sheet metal was used for the floors, which are painted silver and look new. The Roadster shop chassis is finished in satin black. It has remote battery terminals and a master disconnect key under the car.

Conclusion: What we have here is a 57 made to be driven and dressed to impress. It rides and drives as close to a new car as you will find in any 57 anywhere! It was built by the best in the game, using the best components on the market in a no expense spared restoration. Built for reliability, fun and will turn heads no matter where you drive.

Inspection: During our shop inspection the following was completed: fixed the horn, installed new A/C compressor, and recharged, bled the brake system, and adjusted the coil overs.
