Vehicle Description
When it comes to Corvettes, the fifth generation of Chevy's
flagship has aged as gracefully as Brad Pitt or Sandra Bullock.
Sure, this 2002 C5 is just over two decades old, but with less than
97,000 miles on the odometer, it has plenty of life left in it to
bring thousands of slap-happy grins on anything from a trip to the
grocery store to an interstate onramp.
Painted in an impossible-to-ignore original Torch Red, this fiery
vixen sports a 5.7-liter aluminum LS1 V-8, with the only visible
upgrade being a better-flowing aftermarket cold-air intake that
shows off its Crossed Flags emblem proudly beneath the car's
front-hinged hood. In stock form, this engine puts down 350 hp and
375 lb-ft of torque, with most CAI adding around twenty additional
ponies, making this car even more potent than when it rolled off
the factory assembly line. Shifting gets relegated to the very
capable 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission.
The rear-mounted transmission helps this C5 attain 50/50 weight
distribution, while the front and rear independent suspension makes
it a joy to drive on long and short trips alike. Upgraded
cross-drilled and slotted rotors highlight the four-wheel power
brake setup that hide behind big 255/55/ZR-17 front and 285/35ZR-18
rear Nitto rubber.
Inside, the black leather-trimmed interior looks original and in
tremendous shape. The stock 7,000 RPM tach and 200 MPH speedo sit
front and center of the driver, while the mostly analog console
makes controlling the stereo or HVAC a task that does not require
you to take your eyes off the road, unlike so many of today's
touch-happy video screens. The body color removable targa roof
allows this C5 to have the best of both worlds when it comes to
roof choices. The wind-in-your-hair feeling of being in a drop-top,
or the stiffer, performance-oriented strength of a fixed roof coupe
are both at your disposal depending on your mood (and the
weather).
