True Y88 Special Edition Gold Trans Am and it's Pontiac Historical
documented. The Y88 included the gold paint, gold tinted glass
T-tops, gold in the wheels and on the machine turned dash bezel. GM
made these for only 1 year and they were limited production. This
one is well restored and upgraded with a 455 motor.
EXTERIOR: Overall a very good restoration. The body is straight,
and the panels line up nicely. It is decked out with shaker scoop,
fender flares, trunk spoiler and fender air extractors. Repainted
its original Solar Gold color and it is smooth and glossy. It has
its original gold tinted T Tops, new Special Edition door handle
decals and blacked out window trim. the decals including the hood
bird are in excellent shape. The wheels are awesome! They are
either new or restored and they are the much better looking 15x7
with the polished lip. They are wrapped in nice BF Goodrich radial
tires.
INTERIOR: This is the deluxe interior. The door panels and armrests
are excellent and look to be replaced. Reupholstered and
recushioned seats. Part of the special edition package is the gold
tinted machine turned dash. It has a working clock and new
tachometer. The dash pad is in really nice shape, and in the
glovebox is a power trunk release button. The center console looks
really good and has power window switches in the center. The
headliner has been replaced and it has a nice formula cushioned
grip wheel on a tilt column.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood you'll find a hopped up 455 V8
pushing 400HP! It has a hotter Competition Cam, and has been fitted
with an Edelbrock Torquer II intake, Edelbrock 750 dual carb, and
Edelbrock air cleaner. Long Tube headers are bolted to Ported 62
heads. The rest of the accessories include a 50K High Energy
Ignition system, Power steering, and power brakes. A vacuum
canister and pump supply the extra vacuum needed because of the
performance cam. The heat/ac were deleted.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and jambs have been painted
nice and glossy. The trunk light is functional. It is also a
functional power trunk release. There are two liner mats that sit
above a rust free, clean metal trunk pan. There are also the
original bags for the T-tops, so they don't break when you are
driving around with them off.
UNDERSIDE: Body off frame restoration! The front suspension looks
to be replaced at time of restoration. This features Pontiacs
Radial Tuned Suspension front and rear and is all clean and looks
great. The body bushings were replaced and are new. The power disc
brakes are in great shape, and the dual exhaust is fitted to the
longtube headers. They are paired with dual Flowmaster mufflers.
Mated to the engine is a nicely rebuilt TCI Turbo 400. It has a
stock torque converter and is backed by a factory Posi-Trac rear
end. The floors and frame are super clean and dry. They were
prepped and painted black.
SERVICE: After our shop inspection, we found and replaced a few
small things. The door locks were replaced, ignition cylinder, a
new tachometer was installed, and the speedo gear was replaced.
This is a very nice example of a rare Y88, 1 year only special
edition trans am with the best looking front end. Hopped up with
the right upgrades and it's ready to have some fun in.
