Discover the captivating tale of the 1942 Lancia Aprilia Barchetta
1500, a true automotive gem with a rich history. Originally
transformed into a barchetta racer by Scuderia O.S.A (Officina
Specializzata Auto) under the expertise of Agostino Accadia, this
Lancia, the second creation by Accadia, boasts a Gilco frame
originally commissioned by Luigi Beluci for a car that was built
and tested by Sabatino Paganelli. After some testing, Sabatino was
instructed by Luigi to use another type of Gilco frame (a 10 S.I.)
for their race purpose build. This gave Agostino Accadia the
opportunity to build his race car with the frame not used by
Beluci. Agostino commissioned coach builder Tutu Turini located in
the outskirts of Naples in Chiaia to make a steal body for his
Gilco frame. After a few races Accadia determined his car was too
heavy to compete and begin to use it has his daily driver after
installing a standard windshield. Accadia went on to build his 3rd
car using a Gilco frame type 203 and was very successful with it
between 1958-1961.
Rediscovered in Sicily, the car retained its original engine and
frame, but with a non-salvageable body. Acquired by gentleman in
Milan the new owner embarked on a meticulous restoration,
collaborating with Agostino's son to craft a custom aluminum body.
Authenticated by Marino Colombo, a seasoned Gilco employee, this
Barchetta stands as a stunning testament to automotive history.
Historical photos and a Gilco frame blueprint add to its
allure.
